This rich, exquisite and yes "precious" Lord of the Rings Collector's Chess Set contains a map of Middle-earth, which is mounted below the playing surface. The base contains images of the most memorable characters and scenes from the film. The board measures 15 by 15 by 4.5 inches. The top of the board is plexi-glass with the rest of the board made out of cold cast porcelain.

This has been placed on my wish list of unique and collectable gifts. An ideal gift for my husband, because it takes skill and patience to play. Patience in not a word in my vocabulary, but I would love to own this chess set for it's beauty and fine crafted playing pieces.

This is a chess set that can be treasured for many generations.

The board is a magnificent work of art, detailing the story of Frodo, the reluctant hero of The Shire, and the friends and foes he encounters throughout his amazing journey. An ancient map of Middle-earth is mounted below the playing surface, and the base features actual images of the memorable characters and scenes from the thrilling New Line Cinema motion picture. The 32 playing pieces are precise miniature sculptures in fine pewter of the actual cast members and each likeness is so realistic-they were personally approved by the individual actor. An epic storyline, and a gifted writer! The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien is adeptly suited to the chessboard in this attention getting 4-1/2" theme chess set. In the magical land of Middle-earth, Elves, Men, Dwarves, Hobbits, Orcs, and many other creatures dwell; good against evil is the constant struggle, and Tolkien has chronicled many years of these wars.

This theme chess set depicts characters from the War of the Ring, near the end of Tolkien's famous works, and particularly details many of the characters involved in the Ringbearer's Quest.
