This rich, exquisite and yes "precious" Lord of the Rings Collector's Chess Set contains a map of Middle-earth, which is mounted below the playing surface. The base contains images of the most memorable characters and scenes from the film. The board measures 15 by 15 by 4.5 inches. The top of the board is plexi-glass with the rest of the board made out of cold cast porcelain.
This has been placed on my wish list of unique and collectable gifts. An ideal gift for my husband, because it takes skill and patience to play. Patience in not a word in my vocabulary, but I would love to own this chess set for it's beauty and fine crafted playing pieces.
This is a chess set that can be treasured for many generations.

I used to play chess in the past, not in my past life of course. Now, I can't squeeze out the time to play chess, though I appreciate it's a game of skill and patience. I admire those world class players who can contemplate their 24th. or 25th. move just after the 1st. move. I can never even fore see myself thinking of the 2 end. move after the 1st. move. That's why i gave up the idea of competing in a world championship meet.

I've only played chess once, actually (and I don't really remember how to play), but I'd definitely prefer chess to checkers. I like a really challenging, thinking ahead type of game. I know there's some element of that to Checkers, but it's a little too simple for my game taste.
