For Fans of Tolkien and Middle-Earth

First, the magic of J.R.R. Tolkien drew us into the world of The Lord of the Rings. Then the movies brought that magic to life before our eyes. Now, with the publication of Tolkien's The Children of Hurin, the books summon us once more.

"Why, to think of it, we're in the same tale still! It's going on. Don't the great tales never end?"
"No, they never end as tales," said Frodo.

~ The Stairs of Cirith Ungol, The Two Towers

As Frodo told Sam, the great tales never end. At the Lord of the Rings Fanatics Plaza, you have the opportunity, like Sam and Frodo in The Lord of the Rings, to take part in the great tales yourself.

Whatever your interest -- the books, movies, role-playing, lore discussions, participating in one of the kingdoms of Middle-Earth, writing poetry and fanfiction, battling in our arena, in-depth Tolkien scholarship, learning Elvish, or "just a bit of fun," as Bilbo would say, http://www.lotrplaza.com has something for everyone.

Plaza Kingdoms

Members join as "New Souls". After achieving a certain number of points by posting in forums and answering questions in the 'Halls of Knowledge' quizzes, they can elect to join one of nine 'Kingdoms', communities within our larger community: Imladris or Lothlórien for Elves, Fangorn for the Ents, The Shire for Hobbits, Mordor for Sauron's Minions, and The Riddermark or Minas Tirith for humankind. Each kingdom has its own unique flavor, fun activities, games, icons and special ranks.

Tolkien Lore and Scholarship

In addition to discussion forums, the Plaza boasts an ever-expanding Library, a treasure trove of information on Middle-Earth gathered from current authoritative sources -- including our own 'Lore masters', some of whom have a Web-wide reputation. We are also proud to boast a new Scholars Forum, which solicits and showcases submissions from prominent Tolkien scholars and artists.

The Plaza Shop

J.R.R. Tolkien's The Children of Húrin, edited by his son Christopher, is a tragic yet beautiful epic of heroism and accursed deeds, bravery and despair, a tale that feels like it flows from the deep currents of world mythology. Set in the distant past of The Lord of the Rings, this story can be read as an amazing adventure in its own right. Yet there is a special, bittersweet magic to this story: it is one of many tales J.R.R. Tolkien wrote and rewrote, hoping one day to have it published as part of the early legends of his fictional world, Middle-earth. He did not live to see that dream. Now, thirty years after his death, we can.
