Many of us will grab a snack when we're up late at night and this can play a havoc with your fat loss plans. There are many different things that you can do to avoid late night eating and snacking.
One reason to not eat late at night is that while you may pay attention to your food and calorie intake during the day, you will not do that at night. You may think that those chips you ate were barely 20 calories but as you eat one handful after another you are likely to add a few hundred calories in a short few minutes.
Also most foods eaten late at night aren't likely to be burnt off through activity because this if often the time when people sit down and relax after a busy day. Although eating in the evenign may have become a habit you can break it.
Perhaps try going to bed earlier and catching up on some much needed sleep. This is especially true if you are eating simply because you're tired or bored. Drink water or other healthy beverages so that you feel full because you are less likely to eat unhealthy foods if you're not hungry. Find other things to do that you enjoy so that your mind is occupied and less likely to think of food.

Sugar is hard to avoid and almost everything you eat will contain sugar of some sort. However, avoiding refined sugar should be your top priority. You are likely to find these types of sugars in a lot of sweets such as cakes and candy. This sugar if not used by your body is converted straight to fat.
To understand what refined sugar is, you should note that sugar is not naturally white. Sugar is often dissolved, refined and filtered to turn it into the crystallized white sugar we buy on the store shelves.
When it goes through this process, the now refined sugar will lose most nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. Instead of eating refined sugar and lots of food and snacks that contain it, you can instead change to more natural sugars. These sugars are found in foods like fruit which also contains many nutrients and vitamins.
