Use Condiments to Lose Weight

Ranked #5,774 in Healthy Living, #100,304 overall

Enhance the flavor without adding sugar or fat

If you're like me, you might need to lose weight. Did you know you can use condiments to help you lose weight? You can!

What are condiments? you ask. Condiments are the tasty extras that enhance the taste of food. Common condiments include catsup or ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, jam, jelly, butter, soy sauce, salsa, tartar sauce, barbecue sauce, horseradish, pickle relish, steak sauce, sour cream, lemon juice, salad dressing, chutney, honey, vinegar, chili sauce, and Parmesan cheese, among others. Many cultures have unique condiments to enhance food taste.

Lose Weight -- Substitute good condiments for those higher in calories and fat

Good condiment substitutes include the following:

- plain yogurt instead of sour cream for dips and on baked potatoes
- mustard instead of mayonnaise on sandwiches
- malt vinegar instead of tartar sauce on fish
- lemon juice squeezed on salads instead of high-calorie creamy salad dressings

The following condiments are high in both fat and calories: butter, mayonnaise, tartar sauce, and Parmesan cheese. When you can, avoid using them all together or use them sparingly to lose weight. Small steps can help you lose weight using condiments.

What more do we need, right? Well, for me, that would be a little thing called willpower. You see, I love me my carbs. Bread, pasta, cookies, cakes, pies, crackers, muffins, just about anything with 20 grams or more of carbs per serving is fine with me. But of course, it shows. I have, on my own, in the past cut down on carbs and successfully lost weight.
Konjac Fiber
On a recent episode of 'The View,' Dr. Oz was a guest, and Barbara Walters asked him about 'some pill you take before you eat to lose weight.' He then replied that she was referring to the Konjac fiber pill. He said the best way to use Konjac fiber is to take one pill before each meal with water then build up to two pills before each meal. He said the fiber in the Konjac root supplement helps you feel full so you eat less.
A Low Sodium Oven Fried Chicken Recipe
Well, it's a theory anyway...I was thrown into the world of low sodium cooking when my Mom's doctor strongly suggested we cut her sodium. She's on a diet of 1800 mg a day in sodium which is still above the USDA recommended limit of 1500 (for those over 51, those of African descent, or those with kidney or heart problems),

Thumbs up for condiments!

Yay, mustard! Woo hoo, ketchup! Way to go, lemon juice! Soy sauce, you rock!

I guess I'm lucky that i don't like butter, mayonnaise, tartar sauce or sour cream. I'd rather have ketchup or mustard.

Yes some condiments are absolutely not too terrible for you... but watching for those ones can be tough.

Condiments and spices are herbs that are also a source of vitamins and anti-oxidants.

I love condiments but try to use spritzes of dressing instead of dollops.
