How I Lost 53 Pounds in 6 Months
In The Beginning...
First off, that's not me on the right. That's just what I felt I looked like. Through my childhood and teen years I was very skinny. But when I hit my twenties, my weight started to increase - a pound or two here, 5 pounds there, until by the time I was in my late thirties I was tipping the scales at over 200 pounds.Like most guys I still had a good self-image (I am a sexy beast - just look at my picture in the upper right), but I was starting to notice that when I went out, I found myself tired all the time and I would catch people glancing at my mid-section. I came to the realization that I was overweight and needed to do something to change things or I would be setting myself up for all sorts of related health issues.
I had always been somewhat active, long distance running and track and field while in high school, but the amount of exercise decreased as I spent more and more time behind a desk at work. My eating habits have always been good and I had avoided all the bad foods that contribute to weight gain. I felt I had to do something to change things.
This Was a Typical Menu For Me Daily
For breakfast I would eat 3 egg whites usually fried, a small bowl of oatmeal, 2 slices of toast, usually 1-2 bananas. For lunch a large salad (there are many different and tasty salads you can make inexpensively), a protein shake.
For supper a chicken breast (skinless of course) or lean cut of beef, a ton of frozen veggies (lots of choices here)
I would also start and end each day with a glass of water. It is important that you drink a lot of water (I try to drink about 8 each day, although I like having a glass of milk from time to time, skim or 1% at most). Because I want to keep my metabolism up, I try to eat something every 2-3 hours. Not a full meal, of course, but maybe a protein bar or even some veggies like carrots.
5 Things You Can Do To Lose Weight
1. Set realistic short-term goals: Break your main goal into a series of smaller, more manageable targets. If you are going to lose weight like as much as 50 pounds, break that down into smaller more bite-sized chunks over a period of time.
2. Short-term goals should lead you to long-term goals: You may have some set-backs along the way. If you don't meet one of your smaller goals, it will be easier to get back on to your ulrimate goal.
3. Set a training schedule and stick to it: By setting certain times to work out or what and when to eat, you set a contract with yourself. Keep a copy of this pledge either on your fridge or in your wallet or purse.
4. Listen to Your Body: Your body lets you know when it is too full or you're running on empty. When your body aches from too much exercise, take a couple of days off. Just don't quit altogether.
5. Constantly challenge yourself: You need to always be trying to learn and grow (or shrink come to think of it). Each success you have meeting and exceeding your goals will take you one step closer to your ultimate goal, be it losing weight or anything you set your mind to.
Ramping Up Your Metabolism
Lose Weight Even When You Are at Rest
One method you can use is to eat several small meals 2-3 hours apart. This keeps your body burning fuel on a continuous basis. You don't want to eat chocolate bars or potato chips. You should try to find healthy alternatives, such as protein bars, fruit or veggies.
You Need to Exercise
Even 15 Minutes a Day
To lose weight, you have to use more calories that you take in. You can eat a ton of food, but if you don't balance it with a smart exercise program, you won't lose weight and will likely just put weight on.You can lose weight by doing whatever exercise you like. I lift weight, ride my bike, walk 15-20 minutes every day, all sorts of different methods of increasing my metabolism and muscle tone.
Many people go swimming at the local community center, they attend paletes classes, and aerobics work for others. You need to start doing something, anything, and you will begin showing results.

Walking... Sometimes The Simplest Things Provide The Most Benefits
One thing I've found to be of great benefit is simply walking for 15-20 minutes a day. Sometimes it is difficult to find the time, but this is one type of exercise most people can do. I usually set a certain time of day for my walks, they can be early in the morning, in the middle of the day or before nightfall.By continuously going for a short walk just about every day, you feel refreshed and you do get some much needed fresh air. Perhaps your spouse might like to join you once in a while for a stroll around the block. This could provide you with some time together after a long day.
After walking for a few weeks, you might consider joining a walking club or group if one is in your city. Sometimes having people to walk with can make the time go a little bit faster while you work on dropping some weight.

Weight Training: Twenty Minutes a Day to Better Health
Combining Weightlifting and Good Nutrition Yields Results
If on the other hand you want to become fit and lose weight, you can do it by 20 minutes of working out. Combining weightlifting with other types of exercise and adding in good nutrition is a sure-fire way of getting yourself healthy and fit.
Severely restricting your calorie intact alone is not the way to go. All you're going to do is starve your body and slow your metabolism. Any results will be short term. You will just put the weight back on because when you return to a normal diet, your body will try to store fat in case it experiences starvation again. You need to make your body a fat burning machine, and the only way to do that is by ramping up your metabolism through exercise.
You don't have to work all muscle groups at the same time every day. Instead, try to work one muscle group each day for about 20 minutes.
