Weight Loss as a New Year's Resolution
Thanksgiving is over, and the New Year is fast approaching. It is time to think about making New Year's Resolutions, and the top one is losing weight.
My own personal story is what brings me to create this lens on Squidoo. I started out at a healthy weight, and I looked my best ever in college, when I was working out daily and had washboard abs! Eventually, I started suffering from depression and I slowly started gaining weight as follows: I quit smoking and gained 10 lbs. I broke up with a boyfriend and gained 15. I got married and gained 15. I kept another 20 lbs after my first child, and I actually lost all of my weight with my second. However, I soon became depressed again (I suspect undiagnosed post-partum depression b/c of the severity) and soon gained 20 more lbs.
My two biggest problems right now are my *love* of food and my sedentary lifestyle. My goal is to start eating healthy and get back on a regular workout schedule. I'm not sure I want to post my weight, but I will post my progress here!

Getting Motivated for Weight Loss
What will it take for you?
It's a little weird... when I get ready in the morning and look at the mirror as I put on my makeup and style my hair, I don't think I really look that bad. However, when I look at photographs of myself, it is safe to say that I'm disgusted that I've let myself go to this extent. Clothes that I *think* disguise my fat seem to accentuate it in photographs.
The kicker for me came this past month when I was downloading photographs from my digital camera. Not only did the memory card have photographs from my daughter's birthday party this past weekend, but it also contained photos from Christmas LAST YEAR. Sure enough, I appeared in photos from both sets, and I was shocked to see that I appear to be 10 lbs heavier than I was last year - which is a lot, considering I'm only 5'0" tall.
So what is my motivation to lose weight? Well, seeing these disgusting photographs is both depressing (so I might just get fatter), but it is at the same time motivating. Another big motivator for me is fashion. I LOVE clothes and shoes, and let's be frank - the good designers just don't make fat clothes.
But the biggest motivation of all is my kiddos. My oldest will be in middle school next year, and my youngest is just at the age when, although she thinks I'm pretty, she also thinks I look pregnant! I don't want to embarass them, and I don't want to be unhealthy as they get older.

I would be lucky to have any of these machines. In the past I have favored treadmills, but I would really like to try the elliptical trainer when my budget allows.

Setting a goal with a deadline for weight loss
Next year is my 20 year high school reunion. My high school was quite small, and I am still in touch with a few of my friends. But there is no way I'm going to my reunion looking the way I do right now.As of right now, I have 10 1/2 months until my reunion, and I'd like to lose 7-10 pounds per month (with a goal of at least 70 pounds total).

- Great Lens, you are right of course losing weight and working out can be fun. The main thing you need when you are trying to lose weight is a plan just going in blind and hoping it works, never does. I have been working out for over 17 years now and can't imagine a day without it (my wife says I get cranky if I don't go). Check out my blog if you would like some additional advice on
Losing Weight I don't claim to know it all but may be something there you can use. Anyways Good Luck!

- Time efficient workouts are what most of us need and want. I personally think this can all be achieved by incorporating both weight training and cardio into your daily workout schedules, but in a specific way. 5* Nice lens! **Daily Workout Schedules**
