Official Description of Lost in Austen

lost-in-austen"Amanda Price is sick of the modern world. She yearns for the romance and elegance found in the books by her favorite author, Jane Austen. But she's about to get a rude awakening as one fateful evening, she is propelled into the scheming 19th century world of Pride and Prejudice while that book's Elizabeth Bennet is hurled into hers.

As the book's familiar plot unfolds, Amanda triggers new romantic twists and turns within the Bennet family circle as she clumsily tries to help the sisters nab husbands and even captivates the tantalizing Mr. Darcy herself. But what about Elizabeth...and what will become of one of the world's greatest love stories?" ~ Amazon

My Review of Lost in Austen In A Hundred Words or Less

Lost in Austen is a light and fun romp of a movie, ideal for anyone who loves time travel, period romances AND who is a non-purist Jane Austen fan as well as for anyone who simply loves an entertaining movie. It certainly did not have the budget of some of the Jane Austen movies, like the BBC's Emma, but it was entertaining and it did make us chuckle.

Amazon Customer Reviews of Lost in Austen

"If you are expecting Austen's masterpiece P&P, this is not it. However, my Austenite sensibilities were not in anyway offended by this blatant & somewhat contrived story. Not wanting to give anymore away, let's just say that the entire ensemble was perfectly cast. It is all done in good humour and very tongue-in-cheek." ~ Christina Boyd

"The tired-of-her-modern-world protagonist yearns for the world of Jane Austen, when she inadvertently goes through a portal in her bathroom to find herself not only back in time, but in the imaginary world of Pride and Prejudice. This is a wonderful addition to anyone hungry for more Austenmania." ~ M. Campbell

"In essence, the movie turns the story on its ear. Characters from the novel are not acting as Ms Price knows they should, and she tries to set things aright--with very limited success. We learn that Austen had somewhat misjudged some of the characters, Wickam in particular. All that adds to the enjoyment. Meanwhile, we keep wondering how Elizabeth is doing in 21st century London. What we eventually learn of that comes as an enormous surprise. In fact, there are many surprises in this lush production. It was three hours long, and I hoped for another three hours of it." ~ Roger Long

Lost in Austen Movie Review by Times Online
"Of course, love conquered all. Amanda Price and Elizabeth Bennet swapped times and destinies. The sexual politics of this were momentarily unsettling - the worrying prospect of one's fictional romantic hero being more fulfilling ultimately than anyone in present-day reality - but then I had another chocolate and marvelled at the sharp yet frothy, subversive-yet-utterly-respectful-of-Austen brilliance of it all. Those performances and the music zinged. It all zinged."
Lost in Austen Movie Review by My Pride and Prejudice
"A review of the hilarious Lost in Austen DVD, from a TV show about a Pride and Prejudice-obsessive."
Lost in Austen on Wikipedia
"Lost in Austen is a four-part 2008 British television series for the ITV network, written by Guy Andrews as a fantasy adaptation of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Loosely following the plot of Austen's novel, it sees a modern girl somehow transported into the events of the book via a portal located in her bathroom."
We Love Lost In Austen
"This past weekend I had the opportunity to participate in an Austen Fest (a lot of Austen movie viewing). One of the items on the list was a television mini-series written by Guy Andrews and airing on the Women's Network. Lost in Austen is the story of a young insurance representative's love for Jane Austen, especially Pride & Prejudice and how the world of fiction she adores clashes with the world of reality she lives."

The movie blends the book and the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice in moments like the one where Ms. Price asks her Mr. Darcy to climb into the fountain at Pemberley, which recreates the lake scene with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.
