Hallmark’s The Lost Valentine 2011 Movie Review (Betty White and Jennifer Love Hewitt)

The Lost Valentine, A Romantic Hallmark Valentine's Day Movie

On January 30, 2011, just in time for Valentine's Day, Hallmark Hall of Fame released the movie The Lost Valentine starring Betty White and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Yes, another role for the prolific 88-year old White, this time in the form of a made-for-television movie.

The Lost Valentine is based on a book by James Michael Pratt called The LAST Valentine. The story is that of a reporter (played by Hewitt) who tells the story of a woman (played by White) whose husband was missing in action during World War II. The reporter helps the older woman locate her long lost love.

The Lost Valentine was filmed in Atlanta and was released as a CBS Hallmark Hall of Fame movie which meant that those of us who do NOT have the Hallmark Channel were able to view the movie when it was aired. Viewers of the movie were NOT disappointed. It was a perfect match, Hallmark Hall of Fame and a Valentine's Day love story. The storyline was great and yes, it was tear provoking. I particularly loved how they used red and red roses throughout the movie to tie things together.

On this page, learn a bit more about the movie and find out where you can buy your very own copy of Hallmark Hall of Fame's The Lost Valentine.

"The Lost Valentine is super corny but White tugs at the heart," says USmagazine.com. That is exactly what I would expect of a Hallmark Hall of Fame Valentine's Day movie.

"Pratt's debut novel, like Casablanca, tugs at the heart and brings out the hankies. Sincere, heartfelt."

Read The Last Valentine Book

The story line in The Last Valentine is quite similar to the story in the movie albeit not exactly the same. I would say the basic premise is the same although it is set up a bit differently. If you enjoyed the movie, you might like to check out The LAST Valentine. Booklist says: "Get out your box of tissues, and rid yourself of all distractions because once you pick up this book, you will not put it down. Fans of The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks will enjoy this book."

AMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW:

" This book has a love story in it's purest form, without all the junk that sometimes clouds things. In it you see what true Love is, and it makes you hope. These are not the ramblings of some young love-sick girl, these are the words of someone who had lost faith in real, time-honored, make-it-through-at-any-cost love....this book restored that faith. A Thank you to Mr. Pratt for a novel that touched my heart." ~ A Customer

The Lost Valentine was very nicely done and I agree that it is wonderful to find good 'clean' movies.

I did not see it but I do love Betty White. My daughter watched it last night and loved it.

Enjoyable movie, pretty well done. Only disappointment was due to the production not having a Navy advisor. The scenes with the honor Guard were flawed, the ribbons are on the wrong side of the uniform, and either ribbons OR medals are worn, not both. For a period movie with significant military story lines, they should have made sure...

I suppose it wouldn't have been hard to find someone who could help with these little details, which I did not have the knowledge to notice.
  • Jo Luxon Jan 31, 2011 @ 1:04 am | delete
The movie was great until the last frame. Really...a long shot of the two love interests with the sprinklers soaking them????????? That whole sequence could have been eliminated. (There are MANY reasons the shot was wrong which I won't enumerate here.)
  • Treasures-By-Brenda Feb 2, 2011 @ 8:04 pm | delete
I agree that the ending was disappointing. Too bad we couldn't redo it.
  • SereneSea Jan 31, 2011 @ 12:25 am | delete
I would love to see the "Lost Valentine" going by the descriptions and reviews. My preference are happy endings compared to the tragic ones because the tragic ends get into my nerves and it becomes an effort for me to shrug the sad memories and go on.
  • Rene'Z Jan 30, 2011 @ 11:41 pm | delete
Betty White is incredible in this emotional, loving movie. The best I have seen in a long time. Very great job with the ending.
  • Virginia Mulherin Jan 30, 2011 @ 11:23 pm | delete
Loved this movie! From Betty White's "Life with Elizabeth" to this wonderful movie tonight I have been a fan of hers for a good many years. This was the first time in years that my heart was touched to the point of tears........Betty is a terrific actress and a National Treasure! Jennifer Love Hewitt is another favorite of mine since "Ghost Whisperer" and what a treat to have them together tonight.
  • Treasures-By-Brenda Feb 2, 2011 @ 8:04 pm | delete
I agree with you about Betty White; I've never heard of Life with Elizabeth, I'll have to check that out.
