Truth, Justice, and the American Way
The return of Edgar Frog
Now living and working in Luna Bay, shaping surf boards when not hunting suck monkeys, Edgar comes to the aid of Chris Emerson.
The prequel comics The Lost Boys: Reign of Frogs, a four-part set explores the years between The Lost Boys and Lost Boys: The Tribe. It also explains how Alan Frog became a vampire, which is shown in an "alternate ending" on the DVD bonus disc.
During the credits of Lost Boys: The Tribe, we see a show down between Edgar and Sam Emerson, now a vampire. Unfortunately, how Sam became a vampire is not explained, neither by the film nor the comic books.
Death by Washington Monument!
Lost Boys: Reign of Frogs
The story spans from 1990 (three years after The Lost Boys) to 2007 (a year before the events of Lost Boys: The Tribe) and chronicles the adventures of Edgar & Alan Frog and their friend Sam Emerson. The story is said to touch on members of the original gang of vampires the Lost Boys and the origins of Shane, leader of The Tribe. It will also feature Chris and Nicole Emerson and how they came to Luna Bay.
Written by screenwriter Hans Rodionoff, who wrote the script for Lost Boys: The Tribe, the comic series is set to bring fans up to date just in time for the release of the sequel.
The Viral Campaign
Lost Boys: The Tribe -- Official website with the trailer and a link to sign up for email updates about the movie's release.
The City of Luna Bay -- Fictional website for the city of Luna Bay, California (the setting of the film.) With listings of events, links to local shops and lodging, it seems pretty run-of-the-mill until you find the Luna Bay Paranormal Investigations link. On the page is a biography for Edgar Frog. It is also noted that tours have been canceled and several investigators are missing...
Luna Bay Sheriff's Department -- Official site for the police presence in Luna Bay. Offers tips on how to stay safe while having fun in the town.
California Coastal Missing Persons Foundation -- A site that lists ads for missing persons. It also has a map that shows the relation of Luna Bay to Santa Carla and notes that several of the ads have been removed and the site has been recently hacked. Among the missing is a Lisa Emerson.
Frog Brothers Surf Company -- The website for Edgar Frog's surfboard company. four types of surfboard models are shown, one called "The Vamp".
Sequel Controversy
A fan's rant
None of the magic of The Lost Boys was captured in The Tribe. There is no single person to place blame upon; the fault lies with both Warner Bros and director PJ Pesce for making a contrived "sequel" that was only riding the coattails of the original. The only reason this was ever made was for money. A sad commentary on how low the film industry as gone.
As for the "return" of Corey Haim, and Jamison Newlander, these poor guys were relegated to "deleted scenes". In fact, these scenes were better then anything left in the film!
For fans and new comers, the choice remains yours as to whether you choose to see Lost Boys: The Tribe. But I personally cannot recommend it.
