I would say only about 35% of the time are references verified to be real or not.

In other words, use your 3 main buds as your references. All three should be from a "previous company where you were a genius", saved the company and made millions. They were sorry to see you go but how could you turn down an offer of doubling your salary. You would have been nuts not to leave.

No HR department is going to call your existing job for a reference so you can say anything you want about your title, responsibilities etc...
Even if you don't work there anymore, say you do. They won't check.

How far will a company go finding out if your diploma is real or not?

Not very far. Most Human Resource department budgets are cut to the bone. They don't have time to check. I recommend to everyone I know to go and get a degree here. Instant Degrees

Quantity is the key. Make your resume to fit every job you apply for and send them out by the dozens.

As I first stated, only 35% of the HR departments will bother checking. So even if you get busted a few times in a lie, keep trying.

Any idea how much COBRA is?

For me and one college kid, over 800 bucks per month.

COBRA, big deal, you can't afford it anyway.

And severance? The pigs paid me until the end of the month and they expected me to say thanks.

My unemployment maxed out at $365 per week. I was making $1385.00 per week.

They replaced me with a guy making $673 per week. He was hired and ready to go!

I think the worse thing about the deal was my boss knew I had just committed to over $60,000 in school loans. I have 2 kids going to different private colleges.

Working, the 60k was something I could afford.
On unemployment, I was a dead duck.

I talked about the loans with my boss 2 or 3 weeks before he canned me. I know my termination was planned before that. He should have warned me not to get the loans.

I was earning a decent pay for years and I lived a decent life, no real money worries.

To have that fountain of money turn into a trickle was devastating to say the least.
