Lot's To Do Upstate New York
Ranked #6,118 in Travel & Places, #169,864 overall | Donates to Sisters of the Holy Family
Rivers, lakes, vineyards, waterfalls, hiking and more of our great time June 2011!
I have only visited Upstate New York a few times in my life. I lived on Long Island until I was 14 and currently reside in Florida. My father in-law and sister in-law live up there so we visited a couple of times over the past several years.
This was our most recent trip. What a wonderful vacation! If you are considering visiting the area I have lots on this page for you to check out.
Below is a video of 'some' of our trip. Beneath the video I have provided further detailed information and photos of the places we visited. The vineyard in the photo shown is from our visit to Three Brother's Winery in Geneva, New York.
Video of us exploring without the children.
If you like the music in my video you can find it below.

Since the girls were visiting with grandpa, my husband decided we would take a day for just the two of us. Our first stop was High Falls. There is quite a bit to see in that particular area, aside from the waterfall itself. Every were you look there is a story to tell. The Center at High Falls, has a museum, gallery and a gift shop. Considering there was so much to see there, I built a lens specifically for High Falls. You can view the lens below.
The image to the left was in the entryway of the center, so I took a picture and provided a link. We did not use this service we just wandered around town, however I thought I would plug the site for anyone who is interested in guided tours.
Maplewood Rose Garden & The Genessee Riverway Trail

After we visited the High Falls area, my husband took me to Maplewood Park and Rose Garden. This rose garden has over 3,000 rose bushes. It is a beautiful place to visit.
From the rose garden we wandered off onto the Genessee Riverway Trail. This trail runs 16 plus miles, through Rochester along the Genessee River. There is lots on the trail to see. Below are lenses I created on Maplewood Park and The Genessee Riverway Trail.
Low Falls

On our hike we went to visit the lower falls. I wanted to see waterfalls during our visit because we live in Florida and it is flat as a pancake here. The only falls I get to see are the man-made ones at the many theme parks. They are pretty but it's just not the same thing.
We visited 6 falls during our trip, Niagara not being one of them. Not that I did not want to but we forgot our passports and the falls are just so awesome from the Canadian side. We visited Niagara Falls a few years ago but I have no pictures from the trip. I didn't want to get my camera wet, during Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds etc. Below is a video of the falls we visited this time around.
Falls we visited are listed below.
GoWaterfalling.com provides reviews of waterfalls. Visit the links below for further information.
- Lower Falls of the Genesee in Rochester
- The Lower Falls is an impressive and easily visited waterfall in an urban park setting.
- High Falls of the Genesee in Rochester
- This is a large and impressive urban waterfall, set amid old industrial buildings and crowned with a railroad bridge.
- Holley Canal Falls
- Holley Canal Falls is a man made waterfall. It is a byproduct of the Erie Canal, and must be over 100 years old. Despite being man made it is a very pretty and natural looking waterfall and well worth a visit.
- Lower Letchworth Falls
- Letchworth State Park is worth a trip all by itself, and each of the three falls on the Genesee River are must sees. The lower falls is the wildest of the bunch, and because of this it is in many ways the most impressive.
- Middle Letchworth Falls
- Letchworth State Park is worth a trip all by itself, and each of the three falls on the Genesee River are must sees. The middle falls is the biggest of the three, and the easiest one to visit.
- Upper Letchworth Falls
- Letchworth State Park is worth a trip all by itself, and each of the three falls on the Genesee River are must sees. The upper falls is easy to visit, and very impressive.
The Grand Canyon of the East

One of my favorite things we did while in New York, was to visit Letchworth State Park. It is so beautiful. I have the falls in action in the video above.
Letchworth has cliffs as high as 600 ft. and is known as the "Grand Canyon of the East". Below is a photo slideshow I made of the park. Also below is a lens with more details about the park.

Three Brothers Winery
Geneva, New York

New York is loaded with vineyards and wineries and I had to visit one before we left. My sister in-law and brother in-law suggested we go to Three Brothers Winery.
What a GREAT idea that was! In addition to the stunningly beautiful vineyard with the back drop of Seneca Lake, there are three separate wineries and a microbrewery on the estate. You can visit the winery's website by clicking on the image on the right. Below is a lens from our visit to Three Brothers.
Link list of all 3 wineries and the microbrewery, at Three Brothers Wineries & Estates.
- Passion Feet Vinyard & Wine Bar
- For those who live life with laughter and abandon...
- Bagg Dare Wine Co.
- For those who have a lot more fun in a drive bar...
- Stony Lonesome Estates
- For those who appreciate the finer things in life..

- Wow, I didn't see this coming. I randomly picked a lens right in the middle. Who knew about Upstate New York. I love the Grand Canyon of the east. I have been to the Grand Canyon, but not Letchworth. All I have done in upstate New York was visit an ashram, which is pretty amazing. I'm not way too far from there so this is added to the bucket list.
Your music choices really compliment the videos, and they are permeated with a nice artistic essence.

- Upstate has many attractions to see. The finger lakes region is known for its wine, and there are drive in movie theatres still up here. Syracuse itself has some sights to see too.
