Who is Lottie Moon?
I had heard very little about Lottie Moon until I went to the Missionary Learning Center in Richmond, Virginia in 2003. There I learned that every year the Southern Baptist Convention takes a Christmas offering through churches that supports missionaries 100% on the field.
In Richmond, I learned some about Lottie's life and felt a connection with her immediately. I saw her name on a list of missionaries that had died on the field. There is also a statue of Lottie on the campus. What an example her life was!
As a missionary to Toluca, Mexico, I was very thankful for the offering which allowed me to stay on the field and travel as I needed. The IMB is one of the only organizations to fully support missionaries ont he field without having them raise their own support.

What is the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering?
taken from imb.org
Southern Baptist churches collect the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for the sole purpose of supporting international missions. Every penny of the offering goes to the International Mission Board's overseas budget, thus supporting our missionaries and their work.

Lottie's Life
Taken from the WMU website
Born in Virginia on December 12, 1840, Charlotte Digges Moon grew into a cultured and educated woman. During a sermon in 1873 at her church in Cartersville, Georgia, she heard her call to China to share the gospel. On July 7, 1873, the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention appointed her a missionary to China and in autumn of that year, she set sail for Tengchow. Lottie spent most of her missionary years in Tengchow and P'ingtu where she taught at mission schools and ministered to women. She eventually adopted Chinese dress and learned the Chinese language. Having immersed herself in Chinese culture, Lottie earned respect among many Chinese people and her missions work won many to Christ.Lottie truly had a heart for the Chinese people and often made personal sacrifices to meet their needs. When famine struck the land, Lottie gave her food to the people, suffering malnutrition as a result. By the time those who were responsible for her welfare realized how serious her condition was, it was too late for medical help. A missionary nurse was bringing her home when Lottie died on board a ship in the harbor at Kobe, Japan, on December 24, 1912. She was 72 years old.

- Cool! These who have led us in exemplifying Jesus aren't simply to be admired. But, they can be honor as they worked to exalt Christ by doing the same.

- I wonder how many of us would advise others to give away all their food for the sake of others, yet this is exactly what she did... wow.
