How warm does it get there in the summer. I've had problems in michigan due to the short summer months. I've had to grow the lotus plant indoors from a seed. Here's those results: http://davewirth.blogspot.com/2012/02/how-to-grow-lotus-plant-indoors-from.html

A lovely lens explaining the symbolism of the Lotus. I love the principle of "...each person has the inherent ability to reach his or her full potential, and therefore, "bloom" in the midst of the muck" - I wish more people realised that and climbed out of the muck and got on with "blooming"! Blessed by a SquidAngel :)
