Oh I am so close! May be awhile yet but I am sooooo close to embracing the white gray hair that keeps threatening to take over. Great article! :)

I am silver-grey and proud of it. Four months from my 50th birthday, I look damn good ( I think)

Oh I hate my greys! I have had a one thick grey streak since I was 16, but I dye it out and now I am getting little stray greys too. I am not ready yet to accept my maturity! One day, but not yet. Great lens!

I stopped coloring my hair when I saw the grey roots a few years ago, have long since trimmed all the bleached blonde out. It hasn't turned grey as quickly as I expected, but it is an ash color. Right now it is longer than it has been in many years. I have a few goals for my next big "over-the-hill" stage of life. I'm loving being able to braid it again, and to pull it all back in the heat. It's much longer than in the profile picture shown here.

I'm heading in the direction of grey, fast and furiously. I've never dyed my hair, ever...except I used to throw in some "highlights" and I've even stopped doing that. I love this lens... and I shall continue letting my hair get greyer by the minute!
  • lbrummer Feb 23, 2012 @ 12:37 pm | delete
For a short time I dyed my hair, but I hated the look of gray roots that seemed to grow much faster than my hair did. Now I'm happy with my natural blondish gray hair and can spend my money on fake fingernails! Will I ever be just satisfied?
  • TheLifestyleChanger Feb 14, 2012 @ 12:06 am | delete
With so many dying before their time, I think grey hair and wrinkles are trophies to be treasured!
  • COUNTRYLUTHIER Feb 10, 2012 @ 12:27 am | delete
Do mustaches and side burns and top of head and arms count? Got silver in and on all the above :{)
  • paperfacets Feb 2, 2012 @ 5:01 pm | delete
After reading this last year, I have protected a lock of white hair on the right side of the bangs I have, from hair dye. I now have a lock of white on one side and the front. I get compliments. Thanks for the idea.

I decided about 2 months ago to get off the hair dye roller coaster and can't wait for the grey to come in all the way! I have more than I thought I had, I've been dyeing my hair for over 20 years. Time to go natural!! My husband said he can't call me big red anymore, but he does anyway. So far the grey is nice and silvery, and my natural colour is quite a bit darker than I remember.
  • theraggededge Jan 21, 2012 @ 7:37 am | delete
My natural color, which is growing at the back is really dark. It used to be a mid brown. Thanks for stopping by.
  • Shelley_potbelly Dec 5, 2011 @ 2:43 pm | delete
I plan to let my hair turn grey, dying it all the time just seems like too much of a hassle and i don't want to ruin it, its one of my best features. I'm only 24 but I know I can totally rock those silver locks!
  • Perri Haste Jan 24, 2012 @ 4:57 am | delete
Go For it!..I stopped dying my hair in august& it is now january & I love my silver streaks!
When people complemented me on my dyed blonde hair, it always felt like it wasn't the real me. I had a radical short cut to remove the blonde & I love it! family & friends have bee very judgmental, but my husband loves it & I dont have to spent 2 hours every month dying the roots & having an itchy scalp. I was never happy with putting chemicals on my hair & it feels softer & looks lovely in the light, unlike dyed hair that always looked false to me. I love being a silver fox!

"Gray is the new blonde", I love it! I had my gray covered last month. It just wasn't me! Maybe I don't have enough gray hair yet for it to look good. I have blonde, red, brown and gray all mixed in, kind of like a mutt. I actually thought about having it all dyed gray, but I wasn't brave enough to go totally gray. You have a beautiful outlook toward aging and going gray, and you did a beautiful job creating this lens! I used to think "older" women should not have long hair. Who put THAT thought in my head?? I have seen many older women with long hair who look fabulous! Thank you for encouraging women to be themselves!
  • resabi Nov 9, 2011 @ 7:09 pm | delete
I seem to take after my mother who, at nearly 85 still has more dark brown than gray in her long (!) hair. She doesn't do anything to hers. I confess that I put highlights from time to time because some light around my face helps, but if enough gray comes in to do that job then the light will be gray. I like this lens very much and I agree with the sentiments.
  • COUNTRYLUTHIER Sep 9, 2011 @ 11:47 pm | delete
Absoultely, I earned every silver follicle and have dispensed with the foolishness of coloring them. Thanks for a lens worth its weight in silver!
  • Heather426 Sep 3, 2011 @ 11:54 am | delete
No I can't go gray. Just cannot fathom going from dark brown to gray. But love the lens. And the women here look awesome.

I had my first gray hairs in childhood, and they had been reached critical mass (become noticeable) by 30 or so. On the one hand, it was probably less startling to me since it started so early and has gone so slowly. On the other hand, I knew that I would color it if it got noticeably gray early. I am also a natural redhead (darkened to auburn with maturity) and occasionally I add red streaks here and there to make the gray less obvious (like at the temples where there's the most).

Emmylou Harris does look gorgeous in gray.

I can't imagine going short just because I'm graying - although the thicker, wiry silver really stands out in my super-straight dark hair! Not sure if they'll be happy growing as long as I like my hair, since they seem to break off more easily. :-(
  • happynutritionist Jul 29, 2011 @ 2:11 pm | delete
I am slowly working my way toward the "new blond", not sure if I'll ever have a full head of gray...haven't colored or bleached it since my early 20's..have had my hair short for years, decided to grow it long...I'll be 60 in less than 6 months and it's taking getting used to...if I cut it, it will be because it's easier, but I'm giving it a go for a while.
  • Jack-in-the-Box Jul 21, 2011 @ 3:08 pm | delete
No, I won't go grey. I wish I could. You see, I am a natural redhead and we don't grey. We blonde. But not the pretty, everyone wants your hair color, blonde. It's the washed out, not really sure what you color is, blonde. So, sadly, I will continue to dye it back to red.

I loved your lens. I so wish my hair was that pretty.

Although Cindy Joseph is a gorgeous gray, the picture above to which you have attached her name is actually country music star, Emmylou Harris, another gorgeous gray. Please make this correction.
  • theraggededge Jul 8, 2011 @ 5:08 pm | delete
    Oops... correction made. Thanks, Mona.

Thanks so much for putting such a wonderful lens. I agree with you that it is indeed the new blond. Thanks so much for celebrating the beauty of gray hair. I love it! You've done a superb Job!

After coloring my hair for 40 years, I decided to find out what was there. I had no idea what my "natural" color might be. Friends and Family kept telling me to "keep it covered", but on my 62nd birthday, I said "enough". I was always changing colors to find "me", Well I found it, and I have never felt more comfortable in my hair! It has so many colors in it, all my natural highlights!
PS Everyone says they love it too!
I'll never go back to a bottle.......
  • CruiseReady Mar 27, 2011 @ 10:48 am | delete
I am OK with the gray in my hear, which increases yearly- if not more often. But i do love it short... so much better for water sports!
  • paperfacets Mar 26, 2011 @ 4:49 pm | delete
Yep, yesterday my son said, you need to dye your hair. Nope, I told him I am going gray. Or part gray anyway. I am going to try letting the top grey and the bottom dark brown. I starting with the bangs only and maybe a lock in back toward the side. We will see, my daughter will keep the progress monitored and will let me know how it looks.
  • mayapearl Mar 9, 2011 @ 1:08 am | delete
I am grey under my coloured hair. I have tried to stop colouring [I use natural dye] but the regrowth is so hideous, I am waiting to have the courage to cut it all off. I will need a buzzcut! The winter is a great time to do this as I will be able to wear hats!
I will lensroll your lens to some of mine!
  • GabrielaFargasch Mar 6, 2011 @ 1:43 pm | delete
I have been gray for the past twenty years but I still can't accept it!!! Every 15 days I have to dye my stubborn grays.... Now they are getting worse, much more difficult to manage..... :( I am having a hard time accepting my age..... I have tried all colors of the rainbow for my hair and so far the one that I prefer is medium brown.... You have done a wonderful job here!
  • 0ctavias0fferings Jan 10, 2011 @ 1:44 pm | delete
I have some grey streaks which I'm very hopeful will turn into something a bit distinctive. My hair is long and growing longer, I believe in the natural look and think it's sad that so many women are so uncomfortable with themselves or so insecure that they find the need for hairdyes, cosmetic surgery, etc so overwhelming.
Grey is beautiful, wrinkles are character, they show you have lived and experienced life, they are nothing to be ashamed of.

I'm 43 with loads of gray. I'm the only one of my friends my age who doesn't dye my hair. I spend a lot of time outdoors so I like to think of it as highlights. :D
  • Tipi Oct 12, 2010 @ 12:31 pm | delete
For some reason I still have no grey, genetics I guess. My Mom, brother and sister all have some grey but my Dad never did. I'm a natural kind of girl and hope more ladies (and guys) will find the beauty that you show here of being grey. Roots are the worst!
  • jgelien Oct 8, 2010 @ 4:16 pm | delete
I am slowly going gray and I don't mind it one bit. It actually gives my hair frosted highlights and looks pretty cool. It drives my youngest crazy and she can't understand why anyone would want gray hair. Considering she has the most glorious natural red hair with gold highlights, and chooses to dye it burgandy, I don't give much credence to her opinion about MY hair!
    Love your lens.

I quit coloring my hair when my son got brain cancer and I don't miss the expense, mess, and aggravation, but I think people see me as older than I am because of it.
  • Margie Sep 3, 2010 @ 10:39 am | delete
I have grey hair, and I am happy with how it looks and feels. To me it is a symbol of freedom and power. Men (mostly) don't fret over their grey hair. Why should women?
  • prosperity66 Aug 11, 2010 @ 6:37 am | delete
Er... like anyone on Earth I'll go grey one day, my dear. For the moment, there are many white/grey areas my personal head but still not entirely grey, it just slowly increase year after year. Still I haven't made a decision on whether let my entire hair become grey or dye my hair. Impossible choice although grey is my nightmare - still some kind of symbol of maturity.
  • Qualitee Jul 22, 2010 @ 6:41 pm | delete
Yes I'm grey, brunnette and dark brown, haha. Which is one (or maybe three) of the reasons why I had my hair cut short a few months back. I want to get all the colour out just to see what my hair really looks like and if it is all grey!

Will I look like Yasmina Rossi then?

Great lens Bev whichever way you spell gray/grey 5*

theraggededge

I resisted my grey for years and then one day I flipped and had the bottle blonde cut out... and I've never regretted it for a moment.
