Spring is the transition between winter and summer, it is one of the four temperate seasons with days almost twelve hours long. In the Northern Hemisphere spring is from March until May and from September until November in the Sourthern Hemisphere.

An equinox happens twice a year it is when the center of the sun can be observed to be vertically overhead. This occurs about March 20/21 and September 22/23 each year ushering in spring in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres respectively.
This year 2011 spring begins March 20th in the Northern Hemisphere and September 23rd in the Southern Hemisphere.

Roses are so beautiful and come in a variety of colors. They are my favorite flower. Plant in a sunny well-drained location, place a handful of small rocks at the bottom of the hole to help with drainage.

Another one of my favorites is Lilacs. You can plant them in spring or fall in an open area with at least five or six hours of direct sunlight. Good drainage is a must with these so in compacted heavy soils plant them on raised mounds.

I have always loved Orchids. They are just beautiful. They can live almost anywhere. A few orchid tips, don't overwater give them a nice big drink and then let dry out.

Most orchids roots don't grow in the ground so don't bury them in soil. They like sunlight but not to much.

One of my favorites is Tulips. They come in a variety of colors and forms. Grow better in a well drained alkaline soil and should be planted in a nice sunny spot.
