It was invented on August 3, 1949. The two basketball leagues back then merged together. The two basketball leagues were the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and the National Basketball League (NBL). More input: *
The NBA was invented in 1946 because the first NBA game was held on November 1, 1946. The NBA had to be created by then. It is pretty obvious!

Lakers vs Celtics 2008 Finals
Here's a shot from inside the Boston Celtics arena during the 2008 NBA Finals. The Celtics went on to win the Finals against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. This brought yet another NBA banner to Beantown, and gave Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen their first championship!
