What Cake Decorating Means to Me.
I started decorating that year by making a Christmas cake of my own. It didn't look as good as the ones pictured, but it was a good start. I learned a lot from my mistakes! In fact, I think the best way to learn is to get in the kitchen and practice, practice, practice. I know my family didn't mind me practicing, because there was always leftover cake in the house!
Sure, I had my moments when I thought I would never get it right, but I loved decorating enough to hang in there and keep working at it. Once I started making cakes for family and friends, I was hooked. It is a special feeling to create that one-of-a-kind cake for that special person.
If cake decorating is something you are thinking of learning, or if you are in the process of learning, never give up! It is totally worth it to learn this skill, and you will be so glad you stuck with it.
What You Will Find on This Lens:
One of my favorites!
This cake I made is one of my many favorites. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do with this one, since the order was for a chocolate cake with a piano theme. It also needed to be a full sheet cake size, to feed a lot of people. This cake just sort of evolved as I went along. I just started by icing the full sheet cake on the bottom with chocolate icing, and then the idea came to make it like the top of a piano. I then cut another full sheet in half longwise, and stacked it toward the back on top of the other full sheet.
Then, I just outlined the piano keys with black icing, filled in the white notes with white buttercream, then filled in the black notes.
All that was left was to add the writing! To make the writing stand out a little more, I wrote the message with a star tip, and then wrote on top of that with a round tip.
