we have 2 dogs so are limited, but we love the outdoors, and nothing better than a hike around the woods, it gets to the stage we end up with my daughters friends tagging along! (and most love it and moan because their mom and dad dont spend that kind of time with them!)

Yes, we are usually the staycation family. Great ideas. I want an outdoor fir pit to make summer more fun at home!

We've had some of these types of vacations - they can be so much fun with a little creativity! =D

Ah, that is the kind vacation fun I love! I have a garden and, therefore, we spent our yearly holidays in our backyard. I like the way you presented the things we can do staying at home during the holidays; we tend to forget that, sometimes, simple things provide much more pleasure than extravagant ones.
Blessed by an angel on Squidoo.

If I had the privilege of owning a backyard and could enjoy the luxury of things you have in your back yard, I would be happy to stay home sometimes. However, living in northern Canada, it's important to get out when we can and that's usually once a year. I enjoy living here but I need to get into a vibrant civilization even if only once each year.

Sometimes a staycation is the most relaxing and peaceful vacation of all!

You made memories that your family will never forget. Who says fun doesn't start at home?

I think staycations are more fun than any other! My daughter's home has woods and a creek, and they take a small tent and camp out by the creek. They love it! Spending quality time doing fun things together is the most important thing.

Your staycation sounds wonderful. How did you get your kids to stay home long enough to do it?
  • LissaKlar Feb 8, 2011 @ 6:32 pm | delete
My sister called me the "Pied Piper". We had kids over our house ALL THE TIME!

I have had many staycations. Thanks for the wonderful ideas.
  • LissaKlar Feb 8, 2011 @ 6:35 pm | delete
A lot of these things just happened. The kids discovered some stuff and we just made a lot of it up as we went along. It was a blast!

Excellent guide to taking a staycation! Some fun ideas here and it shows that if you stay home not only can you do things that don't cost a lot but you have more spare cash for treats too!
