Lucerne - Luzern - Switzerland

Lucerne or like the Swiss call this great city, Luzern, is a pitoresque town on the shores of Lake Lucern (Vierwaldstättersee) in the center of Switzerland.

The Culture and Convention Center beside the lake in the center of the city was designed by Jean Nouvel. The center has one of the world's leading concert halls, with acoustics by Russell Johnson.

Discover Lucerne - Take the City Walk

Discover Luzern on foot! Lucerne is ideal for taking a stroll, and you can either discover the town on your own (no chance of getting lost, it's tiny!) or you can book a guided city tour called "a walk around Lucerne". The guides on this walk know a lot about the city and will tell you everything that is important, humorous and interesting in Lucerne's history. They will show you the churches, bridges, pitoresques narrow streets, quite a few medieval towers, squares and, of course, Lucerne's trademark - the Chapel Bridge with the Water Tower.

The Famous Chapel Bridge - Kapellbrücke Luzern

The famous Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge) was constructed in first half of the 14th century as a part of the city's fortifications and named after St. Peter's Chapel, which is located nearby.

This beautiful wooden bridge has seen a lot of different areas and had to withstand many assaults, the last one was a fire in 1993. Of the 110 antique paintings on wood, only 30 could be salvaged and can now still be admired.

These paintings that were added in the 17th century illustrate scenes of Swiss and local history, including the biographies of the city's patron saints, St. Leodegar and St. Maurice.

Museum of Transport - Verkehrshaus der Schweiz

Lucern hosts a great traffic and transport museum, where you find everything about transportation, be it road, rail, air or lakes. From ancient steam engines and the first cars to modern jets, there is plenty to see!

The IMAX Theatre shows breathtaking movies about Switzeroand, in the Hans Erni Museum you can admire the art of one of Switzerland's most famous painters and and the Planetarium guides you into the outer space.

One day is by far not enough to see everything, so it's best to plan more than one visit, especially if you love things that move!
