Lucky Bamboo Plants Are Easy To Care For

The Lucky Bamboo plant has become a very popular choice of many homes in the last decade. The plant needs very little care and will do well in low light areas of the home.

Bamboo is a symbol of luck and success due to its rapid growth, strength, and fortitude. Having a Lucky Bamboo plant in your home will enhance the overall feng shui or harmony of the room it is grown in.

Lucky Bamboo is a nice choice as a wedding gift or housewarming gift. In fact, it is believed that the "luck" is even stronger when the plant is given as a gift. If you purchase the plant for your own home, consider it a gift of harmony to your home.

Selecting a Lucky Bamboo Plant

The plant at the right is the Lucky Bamboo that I chose for my home. When choosing a Lucky Bamboo you should look at the leaves and make sure that they are healthy and green. Look for bruises on the leaves or signs of insects.

You will find the plants usually in water, as they grow well hydroponically. You may find them planted in soil so look at the soil and make sure it is not dry before you purchase the plant.

Often the Lucky Bamboo arrangement will have either red or gold ribbon or thread tied to the stems to hold them together. The red and gold is believed to add to the good fortune.

Light Requirements for the Lucky Bamboo

Growing in a dense forest, the Lucky Bamboo doesn't get much light. It grows below the canopy of the forest. So, when placing your plant in your home or office you need to select a spot that does not get direct sunlight. A bright corner with filtered light works the best for this easy to grow plant.

An indication that the light is too bright will be yellowing leaves. If you see this begin to happen, move the plant farther away from the light source. It should darken up after it gets some time to recover.
