Rescued animals

Hurricane Katrina Animal Rescue

A tribute to Katrina Animal Rescue..... Especially those volunteering at Camp Katrina, located in Tylertown, MS. and those working at the Winn Dixie in downtown New Orleans. The pictures of the dogs in the water came from various associated press releases after the hurricane. Those pictures were what made me decide to head down to help. Myself, two other technicians and a veterinarian from where I work all headed down, not knowing what we'd find. We arrived just as the camp was getting started. We were the first medical team in the camp. There were people from all walks of life, all races, all religion, all political views. It didn't matter...we were all there for one goal: To rescue and save the animals who fell victim to Hurricane Katrina. The other pictures in the clip were taken by various volunteers in the camp: Lisa & Tammy, Chuck, Carebear, Gonzo, Kimmy and myself. If you see this video and find one of your pictures here and I haven't credited you, please leave me a comment and I'll make sure you get the credit you so richly deserve. The song is by the country band "Sugarland" and called "Stand Back Up". I heard it for the first time after arriving home from Tylertown. It reminded me so much of what these animals went through I cried. I knew I would one day make a video using the song. After all they'd been through...once rescued and given the medical attention they needed they stood back up and were happy as could be. So...this is also a tribute to the resilience of those animals, and in memory of those who didn't make it.

Our new Lucky cat

We just got him today. We are introducing him to our two dogs. Our dogs are very excited about their new pal.

Our poodle licked Lucky's face. Lucky is timid right now, but I am sure he will feel better. He is going to sleep with my youngest daughter who is very excited about our new pet.

He is a very gentle loving cat.

This is one of my daughters holding Lucky. He is already purring and happy. He comes to us when we call. My girls adore him.

He is still weak and quite tired. He is one of the ones that struggled to make it.

Making A Difference

The Starfish Story

Sometimes I think people think they as one person do not make a difference. I just heard my mother in law, who is a wonderful lady and one of the most thoughtful caring people I know, say today that she did not think it would make a difference if she voted.

I believe each and every one of us matters, we can change the world one person at a time. If enough people do something, change happens, whether that be taking in a rescued animal, donating to a cause close to your heart or going out to vote.

This topic reminds me of The Starfish Story by Loren Eisley, a story close to my heart. I will share it with you below.

A story about making a difference

free glitter text and family website at FamilyLobby.com

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed
a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the boy, he asked, "What are you doing?"

The youth replied, "Throwing starfish back into the ocean.
The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them back, they'll die."

"Son," the man said, "don't you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish?
You can't make a difference!"

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish,
and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said%u2026"

I made a difference for that one."

Oprah has done some shows about rescuing animals. It will break your heart to see what happens to some animals.

The more we care and do something, the less animals will have to suffer.

Your pets are welcome at our house and while they are here they are part of our family. Either way, your pets will not just be cared for, they will be cared about.

Your pets are as special to me as mine are. I sing to them and they don't run away. I talk to them and they understand. I give great kitty and doggie massages and they always come back for more.
