There are so very many cats, dogs, and other rescue pets who desperately need homes. Some come with physical or emotional problems which need to be overcome but they are so worth the effort that we put into saving their lives. Love and kindness can cure almost all of the worlds problems if all mankind only understood this.

Our dog Buddy was rescued fro the Human Society. He was kept in the back away from the other dogs, because they claimed he not get along with the other dogs. He was getting to the end of stay there, if you know what I mean. He has made friends with his dog relatives, but he still isn't the best at socializing with strangers dogs.

Lucky is one cute and lucky cat!

I love this lens! We have had 2 rescue horses! One of them was NUTS when we got her but my son loved her until she calmed down and he actually could ride her in contained areas. (not in huge pastures) We resuced a second one from the meat plant! That horse became my daughters pet and she rode him everywhere for 3 years until he passed away from plain old age! Thanks for all your work on this site!

We rescued two kittens when we lived in Marietta, Georgia. Four weeks later, my husband was transferred to Ohio. We packed up our babies and took them with us. Little King and littler Teenie bravely checked out their new surroundings. King was accepting, Teenie got on a bus back to GA. At least, I hope that's what happened. She snuck out with the dogs and we never saw her again. That was 12 years ago and I still choke up thinking about her.

Her brother, King, still greets visitors with his unusually loud "Mao" (we call him Chairman when he does that). We now have 3 additional cats; two rescues and one from a neighbor's litter. Still have two dogs; unfortunately, only one is part of the original duo from 12 years ago.

    This is a wonderful Lens.

Oh Yea, we have had so many animals we saved through the years.
Presently have three rescued cats. "K.C". aka Kitty Cat (the living Pillow); "Velcro" ( Just let your imagination run wild); and "Suki" ( a little kitten almost dead, laying next to her dead mother, so sad) But now a real Tiger!

Congratulations on LOTD, this is an awesome lens. We have had many rescued animals, mostly strays that have "rescued" us by choosing to share their love with our family. Right now we have just taken in three kittens, that were not being fed by their owner. It is sad when people do not take responsibility to spay and neuter their pets!

My first cat was a stray dropped off on my doorstep (now gone). My second from the litter of a stray found in a ditch. My third was found under a van when it was just a few weeks old. Both my dogs, one no longer with us, were part of a surprise litter of pups my coworker's rescued dog had. So you could say we're a rescued family. :)

Tommie is my most photogenic pet so he has his own lens: http://cutest.cat.ever.com/

Our best dog ever came from a family who could no longer keep him. Our German shepherd came with our house! Our pup-pup showed up as a baby on our doorstep, likely dumped on our street. Even our current dog, Daisy, who came from good people, I consider rescued. Of course I'd take a rescued animal, and I'm glad Lucky has you! Congrats on LOTD!

I think this effort needs the support of all of us.The whole world is on the brink of disaster. Most species on the way of extinction. We all need to save some living creature, not matter how small or big to maintain nature's balance and cycles.
Think also about the bees and what's happening to them and the grave consequences for our lives.Let's save cats, dogs, penguin, polar bears, the environment, monkeys, snakes, bacterias, anything that moves, they are our brothers and sisters and we cannot survive without them. Nothing is insignificant.

We have a rescued greyhound, his owner didn't want him after he got injured and couldn't race any more. He lives with two cats, one who looks just like Lucky. I would always look to take in a rescued animal as opposed to buying one, there are too many of them needing homes.

Like many others, my family rescued a stray kitten that the neighborhood boys were shooting with water guns. Needless to say, the next day, he had a terrible cold, and I didn't think he was going to make it. We kept him warm and grasping at straws, I gave him a small dose of childrens medicine. Two days later, he was prancing around as if he owned the place! We named him Waa Waa (the funny sound he made when he meowed). He became one tough cat, bringing home everything from lizards to bats! He even chased away the neighbors dog. He is gone now, but we will never forget Waa Waa. 5 stars (and a surprising teardrop)

A friend of ours was driving down a street in our town when he noticed a burlap bag being flung out of the window of the car ahead of him. He stopped and checked the bag. Inside was a tiny white and grey kitten. Later that day my wife brought the kitten home. I was not too happy because we did not need another cat at the time. In the morning the kitten was sleeping under my chin when I woke up. Needless to say she stayed with us.

I have a rescue cat too! We rescued our kitten from a garbage dumpster almost 18 years ago and never expected her to make it through the night. She surprised us and is lazy old kitty now. We adopted our cat from the vet. I think she was a feral cat before. She is not the usual loving kind of kitty. We've had Misty Blue for about 5 years and she is still jumpy and timid. She will sit on my lap but only if She chooses and only for a short time.
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Oct 4, 2008 @ 7:09 pm | delete
I love black cats! Years ago I got a calico from the pound. She wouldn't let me come near her for years. But she followed me around and always wanted to be in the room with me. She would let me pet her when I was on the toilet, I guess she knew I wouldn't be getting up fast!

Anyway, after about 5 years, one day she got up and sat in my lap and I had no peace after that. i couldn't sit without her! I guess she just needed time.

Nice 5* lens and good job with the cat!

Patricia, this lens is lovely! It just makes me heartsick to think of all the cruelty done to defenseless creatures. Lucky is truly lucky to have a place in your home! My kitty is a rescue cat -- rescued from the road! We had a contest to name him. My grandson chose Coco. So, now we have a gray tabby named Coco. :D
