Lufthansa Quartett: iPhone App Review

Aim:
The aim of the game is either to get all 32 cards or to hold more cards than your opponent after 10 or 20 rounds.

How to play:
1. To start the game each player is dealt 16 of the 32 cards, face down. Who holds which cards and in which order these are placed down on both piles is decided randomly.

2. In a game against the computer, the player always starts; in a game against another player, who starts is decided randomly.

3. The player whose turn it is choose one of the eight aircraft attributes from his topmost card. The attribute is compared with the attribute of the opponent's topmost card. The player whose attribute has the higher value wins the round and keeps both cards. These are then placed at the bottom of the winner's card pile (first their own card, then their opponent's card).

4. It is now the turn of the winner of the last round who choose which aircraft attribute should be compared next.

5. If both attributes have the same value, the round is a draw. Both players keep their cards. These are placed at the bottom of both piles of cards. It is still the turn of the player whose turn it was previously.

6. The game is over when a player has won all 32 cards or when 10 or 20 rounds have been played (only possible when playing against the computer).

Points system:

During the game players have the chance to collect points. These are added up and compared with the points totals of all the other Lufthansa Card Game players. This gives players a position in the ranking. Points are obtained by wining a round, beating a significantly stronger card, winning a game by receiving trophies. If a player leaves the game during a match, he received no points for that match. The opposing player then keeps the points he has won up to that point in the game.

Level of Difficulty - Not everyone is on the same level, and therefore you can choose whether you want it to be easy, medium, or hard. Even the easy can be hard sometimes!

Sound Effects - Just a little click click noise when you press buttons in the app. They're not annoying at all, but if you play a lot of rounds you may want to listen to something else eventually :-)

What are the attributes that have been mentioned before? Let me give you an example from the Airbus A380 card:

Your aim is to pick one attribute (when it's your turn), let's say... number of seats, which is 526. For example, the opponent receives a Airbus A320-200 card. Since you chose number of seats (526), it automatically looks at the attribute of the opponent's card, and the number of seats on their plane is 168. Since your number is higher, you won the round.

This is such a brilliant game for any airline/airplane/Lufthansa lover. You can learn so much from these cards, especially when you hold your card, you can click the little icon top right, and it'll give you information about that airplane. If you keep playing it, you'll definitely learn the attributes well. You can impress people with information they might not have known (for ex: Douglas DC3 was used during the Berlin Airlift).
