LUKE SKYWALKER & DARTH VADER
This photo of Luke Skywalker and his father Darth Vader certainly doesn't show any family resemblance. Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, was Luke's arch enemy from the very beginning of the original Star Wars Movie Trilogy. Little do we know at this point that Darth Vader is actually Anakin Skywalker, Luke's father.
The twins Luke and Leia Skywalker were born to Padme Amidala and fathered by her secret husband, Anakin Skywalker. Padme Amidala died almost immediately after their birth. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda feared what would happen to the children if the Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader found out about them. Consequentially it was decided it would be safer if they were separated and reared without knowledge of each other. Leia was raised on the planet Alderaan in a royal household while Luke was sent to Tatooine to live with the Owen Lars family. Obi-Wan took up residence nearby to keep watch on Luke.
Luke found out the truth about the identity of his father during the rescue effort of Han Solo and Leia at Lando Calrissian's Cloud City. Obi-Wan Kenobi had told Luke Skywalker that his father had been a space cargo ship navigator who was killed by Darth Vader.
During the Lightsaber duel with Darth Vader in Cloud City, Luke his Jedi training incomplete, found himself outclassed by Vader's fighting skills losing his right hand to a slicing blow. At this point Darth Vader/Anikin Skywalker tried to persuade Luke to come over to the Dark Side. Vader suggested to Luke that if he embraced the Dark Side his powers would be very strong. From that position of power young Skywalker might have an opportunity to destroy Emperor Palpatine and restore justice and order to the Galaxy.
That ploy failing Darth Vader asked Luke if Obi-Wan had told him what happened to his real father. Luke's response was that Obi-Wan had told him he was a victim of Vader. To this Darth Vader replied, "No Luke, I am your father.
Hmmm. From the mind of George Lucas came the wonderful and imaginative Star Wars. I just wonder if the hero of the original Star Wars Trilogy, Luke Skywalker, could have derived his name from Lucas? Just a thought.

LUKE SKWALKER MOUNTING A T-65 X WING STARFIGHTER
This picture of Luke Skywalker and his T-65 X-Wing Starfighter shows him mounting the steps to the cockpit to fly a mission. Even at a young age Skywalker was an excellent pilot and proved his skill on simulators at the Rebel Base on Yavin 5.
This particular starfighter was the primary fighter craft used by the Rebel Alliance. The armament of the T-65 consisted of proton torpedoes and deflector shields. It also incorporated a hyperdrive and an R2 Astromech Droid for navigation and in flight repairs. The range, speed and versatility of this space craft allowed the Alliance to launch missions deep inside Imperial Space.
Because of it's design, the T-65 X-Wing Starfighter could be used in both defensive and offensive campaigns.
The X-Wing got its name from the four wing like foils projecting from the fuselage which could be spread to provide the X-Wing look. There was a laser canon mounted in the tip of each foil facing forward which could be fire together or independently. During combat the wing foils would be spread to increase the effectiveness of the laser fire.

LUKE SKYWALKER PICTURE WITH X WING STARFIGHTER
This photo of Luke Skywalker presents a thoughtful portrait shown above a squadron of X-Wing Starfighters.
Skywalker had become a hero in just such a craft as this by personally firing the photon torpedoes that destroyed the Empire's Death Star.
By studying the plans of the Death Star provided by Princess Leia Organa and R2-D2, the Rebel Alliance was able to detect a weakness within the Empire's massive and deadly piece of technology. There was an unshielded, although not easily reached exhaust port, that would allow the entrance of an exactly fired proton torpedo that would then strike the reactor core starting a chain reaction annihilating the Death Star.
After a seemingly futile attack by the Rebel Forces in which many were lost, victory was ultimately achieved.
After the loss of many pilots and their craft Luke Skywalker found himself in charge of a small group of fighters. After deciding to make a last ditch effort Skywalker was joined by the Force Ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi who helped calm and guide him. Relying upon the power of The Force Luke was able to fire a pair of photo torpedoes that found their mark and started the desired chain reaction.
The legend of Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker started with this victory.

LUKE SKYWALKER WITH LIGHTSABER
This image of Luke Skywalker depicts him training with the Lightsaber under the supervision of Yoda. The Lightsaber was the weapon of choice for both the Jedi and the Sith.
Each Jedi Padawan was required to build their own Lightsaber. This was to both learn the technology and to customize the weapon to one's personal preferences and needs. The blade was pure plasma contained by a force field. Because the blade of "light" was weightless and the handle relatively heavy it was necessary to develop a high level of skill and confidence to safely use the weapon.
Lightsabers required the incorporation of one to three crystals in order to function. When Obi-Wan Kenobi taught Luke to construct his saber he was forced to use synth-crystal as the preferred Jedi crystals were not available. Any crystal could be used in a lightsaber, but the crystals from traditional Jedi mines were preferred.
Luke became an expert with this signature Jedi tool. Combined with his mastery of The Force he quickly became invincible. He had not acquired the such a high level of expertise when he meet Darth Vader in Cloud city, but because of his strong connection to The Force he held Vader at bay for some time.

PICTURE OF LUKE SKYWALKER - JEDI TRAINING WITH YODA
Not until after the Battle of Hoth in which Imperial Forces attacked with the intention of destroying the then Rebel's Main Base of operations did Luke Skywalker travel to find and train with Jedi Master Yoda.
During the Echo Base defense Skywalker, leading Rogue Squadron, helped delay the approaching Imperial Arm long enough for the base to be evacuated.
Following the last Rebel transport ship fleeing the planet Luke set a course for the Dagobah system. This destination was in response to a dream Luke had of Obi-Wan Kenobi who had told him to travel to Dagobah and study with the legendary Jedi Master, Yoda.
Yoda was far less than impressed with his first meeting of Luke Skywalker. He considered Luke to be too impatient, too undisciplined, too emotional and too old. It was only at the urging of Obi-Wan Kenobi's Force Ghost that Yoda relented and agreed to do what he could in the time he had available.
Yoda's reluctance seemed to be born out when Luke rashly left Dagobah for Cloud City to rescue Princess Leia and Han Solo. The young Skywalker promised Yoda that he would return to finish his training.
Luke did return more than a year later to find Yoda sick and dying. In Yoda's last words before his death he told Luke that when he, Yoda, was gone Luke Skywalker would be the last Jedi. Yoda also revealed that the Force ran strong in the Skywalker family and to Luke's surprise said there was another Skywalker. Yoda then passed leaving Luke with a mystery.

PHOTO OF LUKE SKYWALKER ON TATOOINE
This photo of Luke Skywalker shows him standing near Owen Lars moisture farm on the planet Tatooine. Although Tatooine was considered one of the slim pits of the Galaxy because of the many criminal elements that called it home, it is famous for being the home of both Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker.
Long before Luke came to be on Tatooine Anakin Skywalker and his mother, Shmi Skywalker, were both slaves in the service of Watto, a Toydarian who owned a technology junkyard. Anakin was naturally adept in the building and repair of equipment, even at an early age. This is nowhere more in evidence than his creation of C-3PO, the Protocol Droid he built from parts salvaged from Watto's yard.
It was here on Tatooine that Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn found Anakin and realized how strong The Force was within the boy. Jinn won the right to take Anakin Skywalker from the planet for Jedi training after the boy won a podrace on which the Jedi had placed a bet with Watto.
Later when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda were planning to find separate homes for Luke and Leia Skywalker Tatooine was chosen for Luke because Anakin had a step-brother there named Owen Lars. For the next twenty years or so Owen and his wife Beru would be the closest thing Luke would have to parents.
Luke hated the moisture farm and longed to leave Tatooine to attend the Imperial Academy and become a pilot. Owen tried to discourage Luke from leaving because he did not want the boy to end up like his father.
Everything changed though when the farm acquired two Droids, C-3PO and R2-D2, from the Jawas. While cleaning the R2 Astromech unit, Luke accidentally triggered the stored hologram programed by the Princess Leia Organa. Lacking anyone else to confide in, Luke went to see old Ben Kenobi, the odd hermit who lived nearby.
This single action set in motion a series of events that would eventually propel the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker into the thick of Galactic happenings and make him a Jedi legend.

LUKE SKYWALKER PHOTO IN LANDSPEEDER
Here we see a Luke Skywalker print as he drives/flies his Landspeeder. The Landspeeder figured prominently into Luke's story on Tatooine. It is his primary mode of transportation that we see him use.
Landspeeders used low power repulsors to maintain that cool hover a few feet off the ground. The craft used more conventional jet type engines to give it forward thrust. Some of the more upscale models were able to approach a speed of 150 mph or so. It was in this vehicle and a T-16 Skyhopper even more that Luke learned the skills that would make him such an outstanding pilot of the T-65 X-Wing Starfighter.

LUKE SKYWALKER PHOTO WITH IMPERIAL WALKERS
This photo of Luke Skywalker shows him in cold weather clothing as would be suitable to the ice world of Hoth. Inserted into the lower frame of the picture are several Imperial Walkers. These mobile ground battle stations were considered nearly invincible by the Empire their only weak spot being the belly which was, compared to the rest of the unit, lightly armored.
During the delaying action in the battle of Hoth, Skywalker led a squadron of T-47 Airspeeders against the dreaded Walkers with devastating effects. The T-47s were actually designed to lift and transport cargo within an atmosphere. The Rebels had learned to adapt the craft to scout duties and had added armament for defense and light combat support.
Fortunately the Airspeeders on Hoth, although modified to perform in extremely cold weather there, still retained some original equipment which included the magnetic harpoon and tow cable used for lifting cargo. It was this tool that was used so brilliantly to bring down the Imperial Battle Walkers.

YOUNG LUKE SKYWALKER IMAGE
This is a picture of Skywalker as portrayed by Mark Hamell in the first Star Wars movie trilogy. He still looks young and innocent here, but that would soon change after his adopted family was killed by Stormtroopers looking for R2-D2 and the little Droid's secret information. The finding of the Droids, the hologram of Princess Leia and the Death Star plans, the revelations of Obi-Wan Kenobi combined with the massacre would drive Luke from Tatooine and into the thick of Galactic war and intrigue.
