World Lumberjack Competions Main Events

The world lumberjack championships main events are held in what once was a log holding area before entering into the sawmill. Sorta adds to the old traditions of the logging days gone bye.

The World Lumberjack Championships are held every year in Hayward, Wisconsin the last weekend in July.

The event brings out the very best of the lumberjacks to compete in this sports event.
This is a place where both genders can show off their strength, skills, agility, grace and pure endurance while competing for $50,000 dollars in prize money.

Hayward, Wisconsin is known for its history of logging and lumber operations. The people of the area each summer volunteer and support this event to help our thousands of visitors enjoy the competition.

Championship History

Lumberjack Sports

The Lumberjack World Championships were started in 1960 to bring attention to the history of the logging industry in the United States.

Skills that were once the daily labor of many became a very active and growing sport. The World Lumberjack Championships is trademarked in Hayward, Wisconsin to the ESPN Great Outdoor Games. This event now draws competitors for all parts of the world.

The Overall Lumberjack award in honor of Mr. Tony Wise the founder of this event is also presented each year.

This Championship events for the ladies include single buck, underhand chop, and log rolling to name a few. The support for the women competition has increased over the years. This is an event where some of the most incredible female athletes compete.

Come to Hayward and see the wood chips fly and the saw dust in the air.

This event is well worth seeing if you have never had the opportunity.

Great Lumberjack Show

These are but a few events that you will see while attending this event. The standing chop, the underhand chop, Jack and Jill sawing, springboard chop, single bucking, double bucking, power sawing, logrolling, speed climbing, boom running and river pigging. Don't forget there are clowns on 50-foot poles doing amazing things from a small surface, demonstrations, many displays and exhibits.
