Learning to Quit

If you have been smoking for a while these lung cancer pictures are not enough to get you to quit.

I don't think that giving you the story of my uncles death from smoking will get you to quit either. You have heard it all before.

So, I will give you sources that have been made to show you why you should quit, and how to quit.

Very good lens, I like it, especially the pictures of the lung cancers. Help people see what they don't normally see when they damage their lungs by smoking to much.

What is lung cancer?
Lung cancer starts when abnormal cells grow out of control in the lung. They can invade nearby tissues and form tumors. Lung cancer can start anywhere in the lungs and affect any part of the respiratory system.

The cancer cells can spread, or metastasize, to the lymph nodes and other parts of the body.

What causes lung cancer?
Most lung cancer is caused by smoking. Secondhand smoke also can cause lung cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths.

Being exposed to arsenic, asbestos, radioactive dust, or radon can increase your chances of getting lung cancer. People who are exposed to radiation at work or elsewhere have a higher chance of getting lung cancer.

What are the symptoms?
Early lung cancer doesn't usually cause any symptoms. This is why it's not usually found early.

In its advanced stage, cancer may affect how your lungs work. The first signs of lung cancer may include:

%u25A0Coughing.
%u25A0Wheezing.
%u25A0Feeling short of breath.

Isn't it strange that only 8% of those who have been addicted to smoking are ever diagnosed with lung cancer in their lives.

Isn't it interesting that there has been proven by studies that there is no reduction in the risk of lung cancer for at least 20 years after quitting all smoking. Moreover, the risk of lung cancer continues for many years. I was diagnosed with lung cancer 35 years after quitting. A friend of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago, 54 years after he quit smoking. He died of lung cancer a month ago.

The video is right, every cigarette kills. After listening to video, I bet any smoker in the world cannot answer a simple question,

" why do you smoke ?? "

I suggest quit smoking. GET A LIFE. May God give you strength.

Best of luck with your efforts everyone.

Your lens idea is great! Showing pictures of damaged lungs is a great idea to help smokers understand and realized what they are doing to themselves. If words don't get them act, then maybe pictures will do. Thumbs up for you Megal.

I'm not trying to be controversial, but it would be of great value to see pictures of lung cancers from smokers and also non smokers. It appears that in an autopsy, the corroner cannot tell if the person was a smoker or not based on the symptoms and effects of lung cancer. Is this true?

WOW......as a nurse in the 'real world'.....a ton of my patients have issues pertaining directly to smoking.....unfortunately, no matter how much I teach and try, people seem to ultimately do whatever they want to do....it's tough watching people 'choose' to go down that road, especially when i know it's THAT bad for them

Great lens. My husband just had lung sugery. They had to remove the upper low portion of the left lung. He is doing very well. It appears they got all of it. I smoked for 30 years and quit about 15. He thought he would be past the point. God has been good and we been blessed. It appears he will not need chemo. Five stars and lensroll.

I quit smoking almost two weeks ago and always used to get angry at any anti-smoking campaign. We all think we're immune.
The video: Cigarette Damage - How it Kills you, is one of the most effective anti-smoking awareness videos I have seen in a while-should be on tv.
Years ago my dad went from smoking 30 filters a day to quitting cold turkey because he committed to it mentally. his words were:Its all in your mind - it can be as hard or easy as you want it to be.
Two weeks ago, I decided when my box of cigarettes was finished that I would quit - and I did. I have taken up running again and can already feel the difference. I have also been affected by cancer sufferers within the last few months - a young runner lost his battle in January and I recently discovered an old school colleague has been diagnosed with lymphoma. I guess what I'd like to say is that quitting is NOT impossible. It's a state of mind. Do it now - no one wants to go through chemo - you can prevent it. Quit today.

I have just personally experienced my Father's death 7months ago, He had Lung cancer, and he had only been diagnosed 2months prior. He quit smoking 10yrs before. The key to prevention is don't wait till you don't feel well, loose your appetite, and cough till you just can't quit coughing,, GET YOURSELF CHECKED OUT BEFORE.. That would have probably helped my dad if his Dr. would have done more routine chest xrays on him. Although I do understand that Xrays dont get it all, or can see it early. I just makes me sad that we didn't get to spend longer with him... Take care you all... thanks for letting me vent..

Wonderful images, I'm definitely using them for my medical sculpture references.

But I think I'm one of the untouchable smokers, in that I enjoy the fact that every time I take a hit I feel myself die a little. That's a brand of messed up psychology that cancer pictures are not going to effect at all.

Thank you for this good page! You should tell the story of your uncle's death though, I think this page could use a little more personal stories...how that motivated you to create this page, your feelings about your uncle, etc.
