STOP SMOKING! LUNG CANCER IS THE MAIN CAUSED OF SMOKING>If you stop smoking it feels like you dont smoke in your whole life.

Haven't smoked for 2 weeks.... seeing this sort of information reinforces my decision to stop. Have smoked for about 10 years.... and now i'm s**t scared of the damage i've already done! wondering if there's anywhere in the uk that would examine me?
  • DJ Apr 6, 2012 @ 6:31 pm | delete
Yeah I'm on 46 days (using the patch) and I'm glad I did. If I have to wear this patch the rest of my life then so be it, it's healthier than smoking.
  • Cari_Kay Apr 1, 2012 @ 3:18 pm | delete
I think this is so necessary. I quit smoking almost sixteen years ago and have taken my children to see anti-smoking displays. I never want them to make that same mistake!

oh that's nasty! i quit the habit after 6 years of smoking and could never go back. best of luck to everyone thinking about quitting (just do it!)
  • Phiction Feb 16, 2012 @ 8:56 am | delete
I am a smoker and this wont stop most smokers from even trying to quit. They will think about it I.E "Oh that's gross maybe I should quit". but they won't I won't and if there ever is a real anti smoking medication that will 100% stop you from smoking, It would most likely never hit the market do to population control. As for getting people to quit you all claim you want to help someone quit but you don't take it to an extream level like, Every time they buy a pack soak it in water, punch them in the face every time they smoke. You are scared of what could happen to you while trying to help someone so you turn to others to give you "safe" ideas like showing them pictures of lungs or reading them statistics. Stop being a B*** and help that person. There life depends on it according to you.
  • Tolovaj Feb 1, 2012 @ 2:50 am | delete
Every smoker should see these pictures. And we should know lungs are not the only organ affected. There is also skin as most visible of all. Smokers look older and they really are older (by all measurable performances), so this kind of info would be of great benefits for every non smoker who thinks about starting...
Disgusting pictures for good cause... Thumbs up!

Thanks for the photos. I'll try to link these to my squidoo page on radon gas. If you live with radon gas, and you smoke, the chances are much higher that you'll get lung cancer.

Well, if I had not quit smoking 30 years ago, I would definitely stop after reading this.

This lens is awesome. I've never understood the whole smoking thing but I do understand the nicotine addiction. Realistically, smoking was not that devastating of a health issue 100 years ago before cigarette companies started loading tobacco up with 100s of known toxic chemicals. But we all know smoking in general is playing Russian roulette with your health.

Lung cancer is the number one killer cancer in the United States. I lost my uncle to lung cancer last year but he refused to quit smoking. I know lung cancer can be reversed but it requires the will power to do so. It all revolves around a mind-set. Quitting is the first obvious step but there is more to it which I have written about extensively.

This Video & lens has truely freaked me out. I am a smoker of 17 years. Because of this info I have quit smoking cold turkey and seriously don't crave smoking like I normally do. Now that I understand what I have done to my body, the choice not to smoke is not that hard and it is now day 3 of being a non smoker. Next stop is the doctors for exrays, tests, or whatever can be done to find out thwhat damage I have caused. Thank You..Squidoo

This was a difficult lens to read, but it's so important to put out the ugly truth about smoking. It's so hard for those "die-hard" smokers. At least today there are some alternatives that make it easier to quit. Thanks for being so "graphic!".

I smoked for 22 years, quit for 20 years, and got lung cancer last year. I am one of the 'lucky' people, in that it was caught quickly, by accident, really. Had surgery to remove my right lower lobe. I keep getting checked every 3 months, but have anxiety about it still. I hate smoking and wish I had never started. To this day, if I walk by someone smoking, I hold my breath, it scares me so much. Good luck to anyone who has lung cancer.

Great lense I will lense roll it to my "do not be selfish" lense. I lost my aunt to cancer that started in her lungs. The day she went in to the hospital is the day I threw out my last pack of cigarettes. Since 2003. I will no longer give money to these companies to kill people.

Your photo and video are quite scaring. I am not smoking, but this type of cancer can be stopped if the person who's smoking choose to quit. The impact of your lens is quite revealing.

Never smoked, except for second hard smoke. My husband had lung cancer surgery in March 2009, had a part of his left lung removed. He is still on chemo medication. He quit smoking about 19 years ago....wasn't soon enough. Please don't smoke. You are too important to self-destroy.

    What is lung cancer?
Lung cancer starts when abnormal cells grow out of control in the lung. They can invade nearby tissues and form tumors. Lung cancer can start anywhere in the lungs and affect any part of the respiratory system.

The cancer cells can spread, or metastasize, to the lymph nodes and other parts of the body.

    What causes lung cancer?
Most lung cancer is caused by smoking. Secondhand smoke also can cause lung cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths.

Being exposed to arsenic, asbestos, radioactive dust, or radon can increase your chances of getting lung cancer. People who are exposed to radiation at work or elsewhere have a higher chance of getting lung cancer.

    What are the symptoms?
Early lung cancer doesn't usually cause any symptoms. This is why it's not usually found early.

In its advanced stage, cancer may affect how your lungs work. The first signs of lung cancer may include:

    %u25A0Coughing.
    %u25A0Wheezing.
    %u25A0Feeling short of breath.

Isn't it strange that only 8% of those who have been addicted to smoking are ever diagnosed with lung cancer in their lives.

Isn't it interesting that there has been proven by studies that there is no reduction in the risk of lung cancer for at least 20 years after quitting all smoking. Moreover, the risk of lung cancer continues for many years. I was diagnosed with lung cancer 35 years after quitting. A friend of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago, 54 years after he quit smoking. He died of lung cancer a month ago.

The video is right, every cigarette kills. After listening to video, I bet any smoker in the world cannot answer a simple question,

    " why do you smoke ?? "

I suggest quit smoking. GET A LIFE. May God give you strength.

Best of luck with your efforts everyone.

Your lens idea is great! Showing pictures of damaged lungs is a great idea to help smokers understand and realized what they are doing to themselves. If words don't get them act, then maybe pictures will do. Thumbs up for you Megal.

I'm not trying to be controversial, but it would be of great value to see pictures of lung cancers from smokers and also non smokers. It appears that in an autopsy, the corroner cannot tell if the person was a smoker or not based on the symptoms and effects of lung cancer. Is this true?

Great lens. My husband just had lung sugery. They had to remove the upper low portion of the left lung. He is doing very well. It appears they got all of it. I smoked for 30 years and quit about 15. He thought he would be past the point. God has been good and we been blessed. It appears he will not need chemo. Five stars and lensroll.

I quit smoking almost two weeks ago and always used to get angry at any anti-smoking campaign. We all think we're immune.
The video: Cigarette Damage - How it Kills you, is one of the most effective anti-smoking awareness videos I have seen in a while-should be on tv.
Years ago my dad went from smoking 30 filters a day to quitting cold turkey because he committed to it mentally. his words were:Its all in your mind - it can be as hard or easy as you want it to be.
Two weeks ago, I decided when my box of cigarettes was finished that I would quit - and I did. I have taken up running again and can already feel the difference. I have also been affected by cancer sufferers within the last few months - a young runner lost his battle in January and I recently discovered an old school colleague has been diagnosed with lymphoma. I guess what I'd like to say is that quitting is NOT impossible. It's a state of mind. Do it now - no one wants to go through chemo - you can prevent it. Quit today.

I have just personally experienced my Father's death 7months ago, He had Lung cancer, and he had only been diagnosed 2months prior. He quit smoking 10yrs before. The key to prevention is don't wait till you don't feel well, loose your appetite, and cough till you just can't quit coughing,, GET YOURSELF CHECKED OUT BEFORE.. That would have probably helped my dad if his Dr. would have done more routine chest xrays on him. Although I do understand that Xrays dont get it all, or can see it early. I just makes me sad that we didn't get to spend longer with him... Take care you all... thanks for letting me vent..

Wonderful images, I'm definitely using them for my medical sculpture references.

But I think I'm one of the untouchable smokers, in that I enjoy the fact that every time I take a hit I feel myself die a little. That's a brand of messed up psychology that cancer pictures are not going to effect at all.
