Mad Hatters Tea Party Crashed by Coffee Lovers!

Ranked #23,398 in Food & Cooking, #451,185 overall

Coffee vs Tea....not a choice with us...it's coffee!

Coffee was discovered in the ninth century! Tea was discovered much earlier. Does not matter which came first, but which one is more important?

It all depends on your palate. What each beverage does for each is what matters. But our choice is coffee. We do not think that crashing the Mad Hatters Tea party would be wise, but the Cheshire cat might be quite energetic if he switched to coffee!

We like this coffee joke:

A man walked up to a vending machine, put in a coin, and pressed the button labeled, "Coffee, double cream, sugar." No cup appeared. Then two nozzles went into action, one sending forth coffee, the other, cream. After the proper amounts had gone down the drain where the cup should have been, the machine turned off. "Now that's real automation," the man exclaimed. "This thing even drinks it for you!"

More coffee humor and jokes below.

We experiment with mixing different coffee beans and blends for the best flavors!

Twenty coffee makers in 30 years confirms our coffee palate.

After learning about the coffee growing process, we can now appreciate coffee even more. The process is lengthy and explains why coffee is relatively expensive. When coffee blends are premixed your cost goes higher.

We have learned to buy at value prices different blends and flavors of coffees to arrive at the best flavors.

What we would like to hear from you is where do you find the best coffee? What coffee blends you use, and what tips you have to make the best coffee. A blend that would make Starbucks turn over your recipe for their featured coffee?

We frequent restaurants and fast food establishments that offer good coffee. There is nothing like a great cup of coffee after an appetizing meal. If we find a place that serves bitter coffee or one that does not satisfy the palate, there is a very good chance we do not return.

Have a seat, get a cup of coffee and join us!

Describing coffee flavors is like all the terrible things we are told we should not eat. While we all have different palates, describing coffee tastes is very difficult!

When familiar flavor is added to coffee blends, it makes it easier to say...has a vanilla flavor! The question is...vanilla flavor, how do we know that vanilla flavor is the same to all taste buds? Only living in someone else's taste buds would we know, but that is another lens.

Check out the Bonanzle.com booths below that offer coffee, and coffee products, plus other booths with a bit of everything!

When our morning starts with coffee, it's uphill, but with several cups it's like this hat I wear!

History and facts about coffee

Taking for granted where coffee originates!

We drink lots of coffee, and enjoy every minute! The cowboy mug you see is our favorite!

COFFEE HISTORY

Coffee dates back to the ninth century. Ethiopian shepherds were the first to notice the effects of caffeine from the seed in the berry which is produced. The berry from which coffee comes, is red or purple. The berry looks much like a cherry, grows on evergreen bushes and is a huge export item grown in different parts of the world.

The flavors that our palates taste result from the species of beans and the roasting process that develops the flavors we know.

Species include
Arabica
Benghalensis
Canephora
Congensis
Excelsa
Gallieni
Bonnieri
Mogenti
Liberica
Stenophylla

We do not order our coffee flavors by these names, but the species are related to the region in which they are grown. We have to assume that the geology of the soils in which they are grown have much to do with flavors, in addition to the roasting process.

Brazil is the leading coffee grower in the world.

Bean plants are grown in shade or full sun. Shade growth is slow for obvious reasons, but from what we have read, produce optimum berries. Since this is a major venture for the coffee industry, most of the berries are grown in full sun. Most berries produce two seeds.

Berries are then harvested by hand, sorted, and the berry covering removed. They are dried, fermented, washed, then roasted. Roasting the beans is where the flavors produce the intensity or taste of coffee.

We always wonder how anything ever gets its name, and in the 1600s, the name for this beverage was named coffee. Like with anything that produces flavors that the palate or body enjoys, word spread rapidly about this beverage after the shepherds took their first swig!

There are studies which show the health benefits of drinking coffee, and like most things we eat or drink have the downside, but appears the benefits outweigh the lesser benefits of drinking it.

The method in which you prepare coffee yields the caffeine count. Drip coffee produces the greatest caffeine content.

Understanding better the process of growing and processing coffee, we understand why the cost of coffee is what it is! It still beats the cost of fuel!

It would an interesting project to grow coffee and go through the process from bush to coffee grounds, and we would like to hear from anyone that does it for their own consumption!

Does coffee give you a kickstart in the mornings?

What affect does coffee have on you?

Some people say coffee is the only beverage that gets them going in the morning. Some say it has no effect.

BargainHuntersWebMall says:

Starting the day without coffee... is like shoes without socks, paper without pens, day without night and SHOPPERS WITHOUT BONANZLE!!! Decaffeinated, nah, I like it like I like Bonanzle... the real thing.

BusyQueen says:

You know it does! :)

Colorfulscene says:

If I could, I'd run an IV line from the pot straight to my arm- Love coffee!!

sellingnicestuff says:

Without a kickstart in the morning, got to have the caffeinated stuff!

Do you mix coffee beans?

If so, what blends do you use.

We use regular ground coffee to mix our variety of beans to test different flavors. Some folks argue that it makes the coffee bitter. We argue that 3/4 regular coffee with 1/4 of mixed flavors adds pizazz to the flavor.

What mixture do you use?

Loading

No mixture, just like full blend of this type of coffee!

BusyQueen says:

I use Folgers with creamer and sugar.

Classicvideogamesplus says:

I just use Folgers. Not one for mixing coffee.

This is our mixed blend

Woodyswag says:

I LOVE to mix ours!! The stronger the better.

sellingnicestuff says:

In addition to our mix of coffee, we sometimes drop a dollup of Bunny Tracks ice cream in the coffee. If want to feel like the heavens parted and welcomed you...grace your next cup with such splendor!

sellingnicestuff says:

We mix three quarters folgers with one quarter of their vanilla for flavor. After experimenting with all kinds of coffees, we arrived at what appeals to our palate now.

Ceramic/Porcelain

poutine says:

A medium size ceramic cup is my favorite. I like
different designs.

BusyQueen says:

A small ceramic cup!

sellingnicestuff says:

We like attractive mugs, ceramic/porcelain or pottery. There are some rather fantastic mug designers out there. We have trendy mugs and love many of the Starbucks designs. Mugs that have tiny handles are not desirable. Why put handles on a mug that you have to hold with your fingertips? The last time I tried, the coffee ended up on my lap. Guess there is a method to this, but it would not be on my preferred list.

Trendy mugs, ie, Starbucks?

Preparing Coffee Outdoors, Camping!

Enamel Camping Coffee pot

There is nothing like getting up in the morning, and preparing a fresh pot of coffee on a fire. We have a blue metal enamel campfire pot. If it brews too fast, you get grounds in the coffee that spill over into the pot. John Wayne never seemed spit out the grounds! While we have been spoiled by coffemakers that brew it without the grounds, a few grounds seem to add to the flavor!

The flavor is different when brewed over fire, charcoal, wood, or on a propane stove. But in all cases, there is something different about coffees brewed outdoors versus in our kitchen coffee maker.

That holds true of the food you prepare outdoors versus what you bake or cook inside, the flavor is better. Or maybe it's because my folks always said that!

Coffee or Tea?

Which gives you what you need to get the day going?

Some people swear by coffee and others by tea. We prefer coffee, but thought we would play fair by giving the tea drinkers a chance. Will we get more coffee drinkers out there than tea? We shall see!

Loading poll. Please Wait...

What kind of mugs do you prefer to use?

Flavor of coffee is better in some cups or mugs!

We need to give our environment a break, so do away with styrofoam cups. Convenience coffee is served in styrofoam. Those made from paper are more environment friendly. Always wondered what if any harm is done from drinking from styrofoam cups. When anything synthetic is heated, are we ingesting the by products of the synthetics? We think so.

What kind of mug/cup do you use to drink your favorite hot beverage, coffee or tea, and why?

NO styofoam for us. Ceramic, pottery or glass is fine.

Paula

sellingnicestuff says:

Ceramic and pottery, these keep coffee from acquiring a taste that you get from drinking out of paper. We never use styrofoam. Strange taste and our landfills are screaming because these are not biodegradable. Future generations have to live what we put in our landfills.

Garfield Mugs....Everyone loves Garfield!

Promotional Mugs

These mugs are getting harder to find. Glass mugs with Garfield captions. These were promotional through McDonald's in the 70s!

Designer Dinnerware, cups and Mugs, Pfaltzgraff

Our favorite for the table.

While great fans of Pfaltzgraff and the owner of an entire set of Village pattern, from the 70s, we still have our cups and mugs. These are "real" cups and mugs to serve formally.

Fireking Mugs

The bakeable...not breakable glass!

Fireking is still popular for mugs, particularly those with designs. Collectors covet some of the more rare designs. The mug handles make some mugs/cups more valuable. We sold a beautiful Fireking snack set several months ago that was complete with the cups and plates.

The mugs you see are the diamond design. One is clear class, and the other the other traditional colors which Fireking produced.

We are not Fireking experts, but love to collect them. Another similar glass process was vitrock, which resembles Fireking. Hazel Atlas glass produced dinnerware through their process. Do not know if vitrock is bakeproof. Perhaps someone out there will know.

Don't be Shy - tell us how you enhance your favorite beverage!

Nice article and I agree with almost everything, but I think you create a new problem, where people are forced to make their point in the first three lines or 140 characters which isn't necessarily a good thing.
