Craft (be it sewing, knitting or otherwise) is about community, be it online or local, i.e. http://craftybusinessnz.blogspot.com/.

Handmade goods beat the insipid and mass produced any day. Craft design is becoming the hobby or even business, not just of grandmas but for creative people of all ages, even professionals, talented by day in completely unrelated work.

Why craft?

Craft design, home gardening and getting 'back to basics' are facing a new lease of life, maybe its the recession, or maybe we are all getting a bit jaded about consumerism and living beyond our means.

Creativity means the opportunity to catch up with friends at a fabric shop or gather at someone's place to sew and chat (maybe over a wine or two). Why would you ever want to spend your weekends at the malls?
