The Truth About Lyme Disease

Time is running out on all the myths about Lyme Disease

I think if you have found this lens that you already know the controversy behind Lyme Disease. I have put some polls together so that the rest of the world can see the truth behind Lyme Disease and the other tick borne infections.

If you do not have Lyme, there are some polls on here for you too. I would like to compare what people have been taught about Lyme Disease to the actual reality of it. So please read through people's comments and leave yours too. Thank you!

Dr Phil Debate

Do you think this show will make an impact on family members of yours that watched it?

Loading

Yes

tickbitme says:

p.s. I do believe that the show will impact others, though not my family/friends. The public got a better view of things from the Dr. Phil episode April 13, and it may help many people.

Lori8597 says:

Yes it will make a impact on family members who
are sceptical when it comes to Lyme Disease.

Dave says:

Yes, and I sent everyone who I thought may have missed it this web site.

For those who missed the Dr Phil show, plus the behind the scenes uncensored!

BlissGlutenFree says:

Yes actually because I have family members who watched it and it helped them to understand what I am living with.

Deb Venezia says:

I am not sure if any of my family members even watched it, but I am seeing a difference in their thoughts on Lyme Disease. They are beginning to realize it is a much more serious disease, so I am hopeful the show brought more awareness to families.

Sharon says:

Although the segment was too short, it showed the devastation of going from perfect health to severe illness almost overnight. The IDSA doctor had nothing to say addressing what should be done with people with these chronic symptoms - only a negative response of what shouldn't be done. The LLMD looked great compared to him. I think this will open some eyes.

Tick Off 2 says:

Any story's on this Disease is better then nothing.and at least Dr Phil had to Balls to Air it unlike other Prime time so called super star TV doctors and talk shows .

Jeff Rainey says:

I hope it will open some eyes.

No

tickbitme says:

Unfortunately, no. The show was great, and Dr. Phil did a great job, as did the Lyme patients and Dr. B. However, family and friends will not view the show, Under Our Skin, or any Lyme and related vector-borne illness appropriate reading. They don't care enough.

Suzanne Ciskowski says:

Probably not because it would take ears not to be deaf, eyes not to be blind, a mouth not to be silent & a heart to have compassion.
But also those of us with Lyme & Chronic Lyme disease we have to become one. We can't expect others to help, understand, believe in & care about if we can't do the same for each-other.
And we need to treat this as not a regional issue but a national & international issue.
Those with Lyme, the caregivers, all doctors not just the IDSA, the government & the public needs to have a open mind & not believe that only they are right.
And don't have a private agenda.

Julia Bjerre says:

No, those who cared enough watched but already knew the realities of lyme disease. Those who didn't watch have never much cared anyway

Andy says:

Not much. However, we're trying to break new ground here, not "preach to the choir."

zghee says:

i have been 2 over 500 Drs.

Nancy says:

no

What would you guys like to see addressed next in another show about Lyme Disease?

treatment options such as herbals, antibiotics, etc
  • Sylvia McCar Apr 14, 2012 @ 9:39 am | delete
The burden of cost, and lack of insurance coverage.
  • Jenny Rush Apr 13, 2012 @ 11:34 pm | delete
Would love to see a longer air time or perhaps 2 shows...more about the politics behind the disease, a look at insurance companies vs physicians who want to treat the way they see fit, and a look at various options for treating. And get some IDSA people on the hot seat!
  • Jennifer Apr 13, 2012 @ 11:32 pm | delete
I would like to see more about why insurance is reluctant to cover it. What it costs to treat, patients with more physical symptoms than neuro. The fact that most people look fine but are very sick inside. The CDC exposed, etc.
  • rita farmer Apr 13, 2012 @ 11:31 pm | delete
what is the truth behind this disease and why is it considered an "underground disease". what is the gov't hiding and what is the truth about plum island. without the truth, we will continue to have to try and treat ourselves and the doctors will never agree on how to treat us. if this disease does not exist, why should we not donate our organs or our blood?
  • Deb Venezia Apr 13, 2012 @ 10:22 pm | delete
I'd like to see them focus on the tough questions; Like why is Lyme Disease so controversial to begin with? Why aren't these doctors learning to work together for the common good of healthcare? It doesn't make sense to have a war within the medical community over helping sick patients get well, should there? Why isn't more research being done to provide better testing and diagnoses? Of course the IDSA Guidlines should be front an center for debate and how their guidelines is having patients go without proper care, no insurance coverage, difficulty get disability for those severely ill needing it, and so forth... these things need to be brought forth and exposed... We patients have been sick for 5, 10, 20 + years and our patience is running thin, our bodies are frail, and our minds are fatigued... we have waited long enough to be heard and I believe NOW needs to be the time.
  • Ginger Apr 13, 2012 @ 8:30 pm | delete
In my opinion the two most major points that were glossed over on the Dr. Phil show were the general inability to get treatment covered by insurance, and co-infections.
  • Dory Apr 13, 2012 @ 8:22 pm | delete
We with chronic lyme disease need to see success stories on what worked. I have had lyme for 39 years...yes I was called a hypocondriac....had injections in my hips at 18 years old for arthritis in the hips...lymphs removed from my neck at 23 that were so infected that they had to remove them....my spine at 25 years was that of a ninety year old...I had pneumonia 4-5 times a year...at 39 I was hospitalized for mycoplasma pneumonia and in between have suffered much back, neck, knee, ankle and hip pain. I had severe babesia and had to go on Malerone along with zithromax for months...I am now using a rife machine and feeling a little better everyday, of course there are always the healing crisis that follow. I have used a lot of prayer and it has probably saved me from doing myself in.
  • Damandab Apr 13, 2012 @ 8:08 pm | delete
It would be nice to share how political "Chronic" Lyme Disease is, specifically insurance companies' lack of coverage and the cdc's lack of knowledge.

LLMDs Debate

What do you think?

We all know about the witchunt for Lyme doctors . Several doctors that dare to go outside the IDSA's guidelines for treating Lyme Disease, whether it be with long term antibiotics or with natural treatments end up "under investigation.

Do you think that Dr. Chitra Bhakta might have negative consequences for being on the show and talking openly about Lyme Disease?

Loading

Yes, she might

greyheadedmarketer says:

Anyone that goes against established practices open themselves up to negative consequences but is a price you have to pay sometimes to do what is right.

No, I don't think so

Yes, I had it along with another tick disease, Erlichiosis, AKA Anaplasmosis. These undiagnosed and untreated diseases destroyed two and a half decades of my life. I was successfully treated two years ago, with a cocktail of IV and oral meds and nutritional supplements. Interestingly enough, I know of only a few people that have been diagnosed, other than via facebook and the internet. Thank you for all of your valuable information.

Lyme Testing

Facts About Lyme Testing

* Lyme Testing is not accurate.

* There are many false negatives.

* Some labs specialize in Lyme Testing but insurance won't usually cover them.

* Our current Lyme tests for the antiobodies our bodies make against Lyme Disease, not for the bacteria itself.

* Current testing only tests for a couple strains. There are several that the tests cannot detect.

* There is only certain time frames out bodies will make the antiobodies enough to be detectable on tests.

Lyme Disease Treatment

* There is no one treatment for Lyme Disease

* It usually takes several different antibiotics to help with Chronic Lyme Disease.

* You might have to treat several different infections since ticks pass several infections.

* The usual course doctors usually prescribe is only three weeks of Doxycyclen. But research shows that is not enough.

* Many patients use several different approaches to get better with Lyme Disease. Usually a combination of western med and alternative is needed.
