LOOKIN' UP

It doesn't matter anymore if I understand your ways
Or find you walkin' there beside me in the sand
I don't have to hear your voice callin' out my name
You don't need to reach down and hold my hand

All those things are very well and good, Lord
But there's more to you than meets this human eye
And I've found that I can't live on the highest hills
Till I've made you my life's greatest delight (So I'm)

LOOKIN' UP 'cause I just want to know you
LOOKIN' UP 'cause it's you I want to see
Your word, your will, your love are pouring down from above
So I'm not lettin' anything keep me (from)

LOOKIN' UP' cause I just want to touch you
LOOKIN' UP to hear you speak your heart's desire
Real life, real truth, real grace, Oh I found it in your face
When you became my all consuming fire I'm LOOKIN' UP

No longer will I ask what You can do for me
Instead I'm watchin' for a way to know you more
I won't let mercy's treasures distract me from my goal
Just being with You is my reward

It's so easy to count my many blessings
And focus on all that you've granted me
But I'm turnin' my attention to the One who gives the gift
And seeking you will all my energy (I'm)

The Three Little Pigs

The Story and the Lyrics

When I wrote this piece, I never in a million years expected it to be one of my most requested songs. But here we are six years later and people still want to hear it. It's a cute song, but it has a strong Biblical message.

1 Corinthians 3 10-15 says:
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. (NIV)

One day as I was reading that passage, I immediately thought of this story that we all heard when we were kids. After all, one little pig was "careful how he built" while the other two used wood, hay and straw and their work was "shown for what it was."
I've been fortunate to be able to share this song in two schools, one private and one public. Both times I asked the students what they were building their lives out of, things of worth (like gold and precious stones) or things that would burn and be destroyed easily (like straw and wood).

So, now I'll ask you. What are you building your lives with and what's the foundation you have laid? Listen to the song. It really is cute. But most of all, learn from it. It's one of the most important lessons you'll hear on this CD.

Take a Lesson From the Pigs

Once upon a time, so the story goes
Three little pigs left all they knew to make it on their own
Each had to find some shelter to protect them from great loss
But two got into some trouble using sticks and straw

And when the big bad wolf came knockin' what they'd built was brought to light
'Cause it was just by the hair of their chinny chin chins they escaped with their lives.

So take A LESSON FROM THE PIGS
And remember our lives are like temples where the Holy Spirit can live
We'll see what they're worth when the fire reveals if we used straw and twigs
Be sure to lay the foundation of Jesus Christ the Lord
Build it up with bricks of prayer and the mortar of His Word
And take A LESSON FROM THE PIGS

Everybody knows there's more to this tale
One wise pig looked for something that would save him from life's gales
He knew he needed standing power like gold or precious stones
So he took a load of brand new bricks and built himself a home

Then the big bad wolf came knockin' and what he'd built was brought to light
'Cause the house of bricks stood strong and tall and all three pigs survived

Chorus: repeat

And When the winds of the world start huffin' and puffin'
and blowin' your house away
You'll be glad you've been carved from the Solid Rock
Instead of sticks and hay

Chorus: repeat

Let It Rain

Hebrews 6:7-8

Let it Rain

I want to drink from your spring that refreshes and saves
And flows from the river of Your mercy
Plant in my heart a garden of Your grace
Shower Your righteousness on me

CHORUS:
LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN,
Father, Rain, Rain on me (2x)

Let the rain that often falls create in me
A harvest worthy of Your Son
Let the floodgates of heaven water this seed
Send Your Spirit to pour out Your love

CHORUS

BRIDGE Rain, Rain, Don't go away. Father, rain your kindness on my soul
Rain, Rain, Don't go away. Father, rain your peace and keep me whole.

It Takes a Little Rain

!
It Takes a Little Rain
Here it is - listen to the full song with vocals at Rhapsody.

And Here are the Lyrics:

Forty days and forty nights Noah watched it rain
and when it finally stopped I bet that old boat rocked as those eight people shouted praise.
Then after a year on that big old boat it was finally time to depart
but the first time it rained I bet someone complained and I wonder if ol' Noah said:

TAKES A LITTLE RAIN to make a rainbow
It TAKES A LITTLE RAIN
When the skies are clear no rainbows appear
'Cause it TAKES A LITTLE RAIN to make a rainbow

A rainy day Steals away time for playing ball and riding bikes
And after a week and the roof starts to leak and the grass is getting too high
You begin to think it will never stop, then right in the midst of the rain
God reminds us again that it's all in His hands and you can almost hear the Him say

CHORUS: repeat

When life gets rough and it feels like the storms are pouring in on all of your dreams
All your bridges wash out and your head's full of doubt and you're wonderin' what all this means
Remember that God has a rainbow for you, a promise for you alone
He loves you a lot and with every rain drop, your rainbow only grows

CHORUS: repeat

Forgive Me Much, Lord

Based on Luke 7:36-47

This song took me several years to write. Being raised in a Christian home and in general following "the rules," I read this passage from the point of view that I would never be able to love Christ as much as someone who was a "notorious" sinner. As I prayed about this dillema and read this passage over and over again, my Father began to reveal to me that it wasn't that my sin was less, but that the way I viewed it would keep me from loving Christ as much as I had the ability to. When I began to look at my sin for what it really was, I began to understand and learn to appreciate Jesus' sacrifice for what it really was. It was then that I began to be able to love Christ "much." Daily I'm still learning, but it is one of the greatest revelations I've ever had in my Christian life!

Just after the release of this project, I received a tremendous honor. I had entered 2 other songs from the album in Nashville Records 2004 Song of the Year contest, but the judges called and requested I switch one of my entries to this song.

"Forgive Me Much, Lord" won Nashville Records 2004 Song of the Year Award!

Here are the Lyrics:

Forgive Me Much, Lord

No one seemed to notice as she walked into the place
No one stopped to see the look of despair on her face.
Standing there behind Him, she began to weep
Each tear fell like a burden, there at her Master's feet.

Then Simon turned all eyes on her unveiling her life of shame
And her heart cried out a simple song only Jesus could hear her sing

FORGIVE ME MUCH, LORD I want to love You more
Show me all the things that keep me from You
FORGIVE ME MUCH, LORD I want to love You more
Help me see all your mercy, Forgive me
Forgive me FORGIVE ME MUCH, LORD

The seconds passed like hours till He began to speak
Then Jesus shared this haunting truth that troubled even me.
The one who's been forgiven little loves in small, small ways
But she has lavished her love on me. Full pardon is hers today

These words that silenced Simon now took my breath away
I'd been so righteous all my life, could I really say . . .

CHORUS

BRIDGE
Then my soul began to understand, and I felt the awful pain
My love wasn't less 'cause I have less sin, But I'd never seen the stain
All of those things no one else could see My Savior revealed to me
Could they really be the only thing That held Him to that tree

CHORUS

Listen to Forgive me Much, Lord

"Forgive Me Much, Lord" on Rhapsody
Nashville Records 2004 Song of the Year

I Saw Love

A woman living on the streets for nigh on12 years now
She'd lost all hope of ever getting well
But with a hand of faith, she touched His robe and when she felt His mighty power
She hung her head, afraid that He could tell. She said

When I looked up, I saw His face
I expected him to turn away.
How could He look at me after all that I'd done?
But when I looked up His eyes met mine and I was surprised to find
Despite all my fears, I SAW LOVE.

A man standin' round a fire, His friend condemned to die
But three times he denied he even knew His name.
And as he did he heard he rooster crow just like Jesus said
And Peter just hung his head in shame. He said
CHORUS: repeat

Everyday I try to be all that Christ has asked
But I found myself falling again today
So I bowed my head and prayed the prayer. I asked Him to forgive
I love you is what I heard Him say.

CHORUS: repeat
