Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American Southern rock band. The band became prominent in the Southern United States in 1973, and rose to worldwide recognition. They chugged out several hits during the '70s but separated after their lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant, was killed in a plane crash in 1977. The band regrouped in 1986.

The band became prominent in the Southern United States in 1973, and rose to worldwide recognition before three members and one road crew member died in an airplane crash in 1977, including lead vocalist and primary songwriter Ronnie Van Zant. The band reformed in 1987 for a reunion tour with Ronnies younger brother Johnny Van Zant as the frontman and continues to record music today.
