Dire Straits
Although the band was formed in an era when punk rock ruled the charts, their unique style of Rock Music, simpler than the Classic Rock of the 1970's, woowed new audiences quickly.
Their first single Sultan's Of Swing immediately put them into the spotlight. By the time their most famous album, Brothers In Arms was released, with the single Money For Nothing which of course was recorded at Live Aid they had reached the top.

Mark Knopfler is definitely my favourite guitarist of all time. The main guitar riff in this song is just so catchy, and really blows you away once the drums and bass guitar kick in. It's kind of similar to Dire Straits' "On Every Street" track in that sense.
Here's a little bit of information for those not in the know. Knopfler uses a very unique fingerstyle playing method more like that used when playing a banjo than regular guitar fingerpicking. It involves making use of percussive pops and clicks by stricking the strings with the back of the fingernail in a downstroke motion. Those seeking to play/replicate many of his guitar pieces often overlook this vital technique, which is why many performances of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler material rarely sound as authentic as the originals.

I am an English guy who moved to the USA in 1994, spent 12 years in Indiana, then moved to South Florida in 2005. I have a background in computers, have run my own web sites since 1998, and spend more time working than I would like (as do we all)...
I enjoy travel, spent a year in New Zealand, followed by 12 years of travel for work, mostly to Central and South America and the Caribbean. I love meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures and experiencing different ways of life.
