Lily began belly dancing while spending a year abroad studying medieval history at Oxford University. She loved the camaraderie of the belly dance classes, and promptly founded a belly dance club at Williams College when she returned to the US. After graduating from Williams with a BA in Biology and Medieval History, Lily returned to Oxford to pursue belly dancing, as well as a Master of Science degree in Biological Anthropology. It was at this time that Lily got hooked on performing, first as part of Oxford's Belly Dance Troupe, Beledi, which performed at Oxford's famous black tie balls, and later as a soloist dancing at local Middle Eastern restaurants.
