Mabel, the Yellow Labrador Puppy
Milestone!
Maybelienne Graduates from Reliable Manners Class!

The Proud Graduate!

Take your puppy to a class. It's great training for them, but even better for us owners!
P.S. These classes are not magic. It's up to you to follow through with the lessons and consistently train your dog. Non-dog-people might make fun of you for some of the training you do and who can blame them? There's something funny about a grown adult trying to wrestle a 70 pound adolescent puppy into time-out for jumping onto a kitchen chair and stealing treats off the table. But don't let the teasing distract you from your goal: To create a happy, healthy, well-balanced dog. The work is never done, but it's always worth it!

Puppy-raising tip of the day!
Just when you thought you've given her enough attention, think again! Walk, walk, walk, train, train, train, play, play, play. Like they always say, "A tired puppy is a well-behaved puppy!
The Responsibility Project: A Teacher Owns Up
Mabel's owner is a teacher with a really cool new blog. Check it out!
I'm setting out to change my relationship with my teaching career. No more blaming, criticizing, moaning and groaning, etc. I'm choosing happiness for myself and for the sake of my students. This will be a challenge! But it's time...
Fetching RSS feed... please stand byMabel shows her enthusiasm for gardening...

For the first Christmas in our new house, my husband and I bought one of those small potted evergreen trees that you plant somewhere in the backyard after the holidays are all said and done. We thought, 'how nice it will be to one day point the tree out to our kids and tell them that it was our first Christmas tree ever.' Once spring came around, my husband found a nice little corner in the yard for our tiny tree and planted it there with love. Then Mabel found it...and the rest is history.

Mabel wants a bath...

I ran around the house franically searching for Mabel but she was nowhere to be found! And then I heard a funny sound from the bathroom, a slurping slobbering sound. So I went in and found her drinking water off of the floor of the bath tub. Why? Her water bowl was full. Why?

- It's true! They are adorable and they sure know how to keep you on your toes! Mabel may have graduated from Reliable Manners class, but we've definitely got to keep up on her training because there's always a new behavior that we're surprised by.

- What a cute lab. Our in-house labrador is also achingly cute, but he definitely has some Marley in him (if you haven't read the book you should--it's hilarious). When I take him for walks I sometimes get this type of comment, "What a well-behaved dog." My god, if they only knew the awful truth: when he's bad he's oh so bad.
Seriously though, labs are great because they have so much personality.
