The argument isn't PC versus Mac, but Windows vs. Mac. Unix is going to take over the world. It might be OS X, maybe Ubuntu or gOS, but as much as I love OS X and popular Linux flavors, market share goes to Microsoft.

I bought my first Mac in 1991 and have had one ever since. I added a Windows PC to my desk in 1998, and have used Windows for the bulk of my web work for years (remember when Apple couldn't get anyone to make software?) I never fell in love with Windows the way I loved the Mac. Nothing more than personal preference, really.
Windows Vista made my decision easy: I'm switching back to Mac full time, long before I'm forced to move from XP. (I'll keep a Windows machine around to test web sites - I don't want to add Windows to my Mac!)

Macs are for people who are forward thinkers, creators, innovators. Their hardware, software and even marketing strategy are geared specifically for those that don't just fit in and fill out their TPS reports, but for those that create new economies of thought and who shape the progress that rest of society follows.
PC's are for those that like spreadsheets due at 5pm, World of Warcraft and trying for hours to find the right drivers and settings to download pics from their digital cameras.
I think it's inevitable that someday there will be an electronic uprising where Macs will take over the world and eradicate all PC's and probably most humans (see: Flight of the Conchords, "the humans are dead"), until then I'm still going to be hating my work PC and loving my home iMac.

Yes, Macs are cool and easy to use as well as being reliable. I love my mac!! However I miss the customization and the extra "underground" things you can do with a PC... All the good softwares that allow you to do extra things are for PC mainly. Yes you can use boot camp and have them run on your mac, but it is not the same. In regards to gaming, yes you are right it sucks that there are no more games and that the hardware on mac usually doesn't support the best ones. However I still love my mac for the streamline and clean solutions it offers. With PC you allways seem to be troubeshooting something all the time or adding missing driver etc... just a pain. And this is valid for Gaming as well. How many times games are crashing on PC??? A LOT!!! might as well just getting a PS3 then...

I love the fact that people still feel the Mac is overpriced. Dell just released their version of an iMac, circa 2005, and it's about $500 more than a current iMac. Numerous sites have clearly demonstrated that with comparable features, the Mac is no more expensive than the PC. So, price never should be an issue. Or, if it is for you, then you admit you want a computer that does not do all the stuff the Mac does out of the box. . .which is fine and good. Just stop comparing the two.
No doubt the PC is the choice for gaming.
Everything else resides with the Mac, or they are equal, which means the Mac for ease of use and sense of security that "it will just work."

PC. I've used both extensively. For the cost of the least expensive MacBook you can turn your PC over every 3 years. You'd have to keep the Mac for 10 years to get the same per year cost.
That said, the Mac will last 10 years. I have an 11 year old PowerBook that will run the original release of OSX. The memory in it could be upgraded way beyond the specified max without an issue. Running Debian it has the same performance as my Compaq PIII 850mhz laptop despite the Mac's 300mhz processor and it being twice the Compaq's age.
You still pay a premium for the Apple brand and design. You pay a premium for a Lincoln even though the hardware is all Ford. The Mac hardware is now no better than that used in PCs. It's also much harder to go from Mac->PC than it is to go from PC->Mac.
If however you consider your self dumb, at least in the technological sense, then the Mac is for you. It presents you with fewer choices, requires that you learn less, and even after all these years, it is still easier to use.

PC User says:
1. ANY OS can be exploited if a person has the know-how and the will to do so.
2. Fewer users = fewer reported problems and fewer attacks, that's simple math.
3. The base line reason more people choose PC is price, price, price.
4. As with any business advertising a product, Mac is going to tell you only the good things about itself in commercials. They are not going to tell you that they also get vulnerabilities and viruses. PC companies will advertise in like fashion. When you're selling a product, it does you little good to tell a prospective buyer about the weakness in your product.
5. Microsoft has been propped up as the evil corporate giant, just like "Big Oil," and "Big Pharma." Therefore some people like to "act out digitally" against such labeled companies in some sort of "righteous cause." As Apple gets bigger, it becomes a bigger target.
My experience is based mostly with PC, however I do have some experience with apples. I have seen a Mac crash while trying to play a DVD. We had to cold boot it to set it free. Over the years, my windows machines have crashed, gotten viruses and malware. When they did, I fixed them. 95% of the time, they have worked just fine for me. I now use Windows Vista 64 bit and have had two very minor problems with software compatibility which have since been fixed and are working fine. Vista 64 runs fast and smooth on my machine, and actually pleasently surprises me from time to time with it's features. I have been building custom computers for many years now. I like that I can upgrade my hardware cheaply and still be able to run all the programs and games I like.

Need a new part for your Mac? Better hit up the Apple store or website to pay for overpriced, "special" hardware. Need some new hardware for your PC? You can get PC parts from just about anywhere. Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, Comp USA, and you can't forget just about anywhere on the internet. And guess what! The same hardware for the PC is half the price of the "special" Mac hardware!

ok, from reading this I see a lot of the mac users comparing price to store models, OS to vista, and security to something that is used less.
first of there is nothing cheaper then a custom built PC if you know what you are doing you can build a bad ass computer for cheaper then any store bought computer, mac or otherwise. second DELL EFFING sux so do not compare prices to dell computers. I recently built my newest box which is better then alienware for half the price. OS, ok vista as we all know sucks right now.. but widows is the most widely used OS so its going to have more problems with viruses because more people use it and more people find the back doors. XP is less buggy then vista because it has had several service packs come out for it to fix them ... wait a year or two and vista will get better. Also on the OS bit linex and ubunto are still good OS and more secure because... hey guess what .. its not used as much ... so please do some research

Vista is the prime example of the ultimate OS. It's fast, clean, and works well with most drivers. User Account Control is a welcome reminder to security as an user. The licensing options couldn't be any clearer. To think that Windows 7 might be released in 09...only to steal Vista short lived glory!!!

My vote has to go with PC. When everyone thinks about PC, they always go right for windows throat. However, a lot of mac users, and good number of PC users fail to see, Windows is not the only OS available for a PC. You've got a rainbow of Linux distro's out there. All of them more stable then OSX and Windows put together. I will concede that OSX is more user friendly. Sorry my fellow PC fans, but there's not denying this fact. Mac's are just easier to pick up and work with. But to say that alone is what makes the Mac's better, that's just ignorance. Other false arguments are Mac is the most secure OS on the market. No Linux is, problem is, it's just not very main stream. Though when an OS does become mainstream (i.e. Windows!), it becomes the target of every tom dick and harry that knows how to create a virus. OSX is starting to see this pattern as well. Mac's are becoming more mainstream, and there are now virus' for it. In fact the first recorded virus, was for a Mac! Mac's ivory tower is slowly coming down. As they get more mainstream, they will get more negative attention. They just weren't popular enough to even get that years ago. Now it's different, now you're starting to see security threats for it. Mac's prided itself on the fact there were no virus' for it, and they didn't need an antivirus. But it's security through obscurity plan is no longer working. Now I'm not saying windows is more stable then OSX. Far from it, because Windows opens itself up to a whole bunch of third party applications, it risks it's stability for the ability to provide more software for it's users. Mac's don't do that. It's either Mac's (steve jobs really) way or the highway. So while this brings more stability, it lessons options. The fact of the matter is OSX, Windows, and even Linux, are made by human beings. And we are far from perfect, how can we expect our products to be as well? Windows just shows, the more popular an item is, the more people there are to find its flaws and the more people there will be to exploit it. Mac users will find this out the hard way if they continue to be ignorant of this little fact. Windows has already been there and done that. While it's not out of the woods, it's got a head start on OSX and yes even Linux. And as far as ease of use, Windows and Linux are continuing to show improvement in their user friendly side. The day will come when this won't be Mac's advantage any more. While people may bash Vista, it is a lot more user friendly then XP. While Vista has it's flaws it's a step in the right direction. So to all those Mac users who keep comparing Mac's to just Vista, please keep in mind you're should also look at XP and every freaking Linux distro out there.

macs suck, pc's rule. in fact the only actually useful program that you can't already get on pc's is a program called "bootcamp".
what is boot camp you ask? its simple it allows mac users to reboot and operate windows. wow. in fact the only reason the program is so sucsesful is because of the same exact reason macs suck. BECAUSE YOU CAN'T DO F---IN' ANYTHING ON A MAC! its been so sucsesful that people have been pressing microsoft to start a program that allows users to use mac os. but as we all know that would be like downgrading. and besides what would you run while using it? oh i know, BOOTCAMP!
