Macrame Patterns

I love Macrame patterns - and it is wonderful to now find patterns that offer truly functional results that can be used around the home, such as this delightful little gem.

Garlic Bag

Materials Needed

* 16 Yards Jute
* 3 Beads

Instructions

1. Cut 16 cords 30 inches long and 5 holding cords 18 inches long. Attach the 16 cords to holding cord no.1 with lark's head knots. Center knots on holding cords and pin to workboard.

2. Leaving a 6 inch tail on holding cord no.2 start at right side and tie double half hitches with 16 cords. Fold holding cord back towards the right and continue with a second row of half hitches working from left to right. Repeat procedure beginning at left end using holding cord no.3.

3. Skip first two cords on left end and begin tying a row of square knots (with 2 filler cords) for a total of 7 knots and 2 free cords on each end. Join 4 free cords with square knot.

4. Alternative cords by using two cords from each neighbouring square knot. Continue to tie alternating square knots until 8 rows have been completed. Tie double half hitches with holding cord no.4, directly below last square knot row. Tie holding cord ends in a square knot.

5. Tie all cords together with gathering cord (holding cord no.5). Trim fringe to 3 1/2 inches.

6. Join ends of holding cord no.1 with overhand knot. Slide beads up ends of holding cords no. 2 and 3 and secure with overhand knots.
