Mad Hatter Costume | Dress As Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter For Halloween 2010
Ranked #16,197 in Entertainment, #196,819 overall
Mad Hatter Costume
This Halloween, Mad Hatter costumes are set to fly off the shelves as they become the number one most popular Halloween costume for 2010.
It comes as no surprise that so many people would want to dress up as this attention grabbing character after Johnny Depp's memorable performance in the box office smash movie Alice in Wonderland earlier this year, but how can you ensure you stand out from the crowd?
On this page I will be giving you links to where you can find the best Mad Hatter costumes at the best prices, giving discount codes and helping you achieve a truly memorable Halloween night as this quirky character.
Contents
Are you late for a very important date?
Fear not! I won't be offended if you want to skip ahead to the section that takes your fancy...
Adult Mad Hatter Costume
In the past I have tried making my own Halloween costumes or buying one or two essential pieces, then making up the rest with items from thrift shops etc.
As you may imagine, these costumes looked kind of shabby so I am now an advocate of buying full costumes from costume stores online!
This amazing Mad Hatter costume is from BuyCostumes.com

Alice In Wonderland Movie Prestige Mad Hatter Adult Costume
It includes:
- Fitted brown velvet jacket with lace trimmed sleeves and attached ribbons
- False purple and white shirt front
- Oversized printed bowtie
- Cropped, flared, pinstriped trousers with embroidered floral design
- Mad Hatter hat with peach ribbon, 10/16 label and attached orange hair
It's an official licensed Disney costume, it's available in sizes 38"-46" (chest) and does not include make-up, socks or shoes (I have included these items in the Mad Hatter Accessories section below).
Women's Mad Hatter Costume
Who said Mad Hatter costumes were for guys only?
Why not inject some sex appeal into this traditionally masculine costume and dress up in a creative, original costume this year?
I really like the how the whole look has been adapted into a cute, quirky costume, in particular the miniature hat!
There's something a little burlesque in this costume that really lends itself to the dark elements of Tim Burton's interpretation of Alice in Wonderland as well.

Mischievous Mad Hatter Deluxe Adult Costume
It includes:
- Waistcoat dress with long sleeves, clear straps, ruffle bust and tutu skirt
- Detachable train with bow
- Bowtie
- Mini top hat headband
It comes in sizes 0-14 (US) and does not include the fishnet stockings or the boots (see the Mad Hatter Accessories section for these).
The Performance
So you have an amazing costume, but how can you make sure you stand out from any other Mad Hatters on the night?
Simple - act like the Mad Hatter!
That's right, memorize some quotes, move in an erratic fashion, look wide-eyed and interesting, practise your Scottish accent for when you get angry and don't forget the Futterwack dance!
Mad Hatter Accessories
Complete your Mad Hatter costume with a few of the accessories below to ensure you really look the part.
In the case of shoes, I have picked some out that would be able to be used for the rest of the year too!
Of course I don't know what you get up to at the weekends - perhaps the make-up and eyebrows will see regular use as well...

Alice In Wonderland Movie - Mad Hatter Hat with Hair Adult
If you're planning to make / put together your own Mad Hatter costume, the one thing you need to get right (and ensure people know who you're meant to be!) is, of course, the hat!
This official Disney Mad Hatter Hat looks the part and comes with hair attached, so you don't need to worry about getting a seperate wig

Alice In Wonderland Movie - Mad Hatter Eyebrows
When I was putting together this page I almost didn't include these eyebrows - what was I thinking! (Well, if you must know, I was thinking that the eyebrows could be created with make-up, but after finding these I immediately changed my mind).
These look exactly like the ones Johnny Depp sports in the film and I bet most Mad Hatter wannabes will be lacking this finishing touch.
This is your chance to add some extra authenticity and show that you put a lot of thought and effort into your costume.

Face Painting Makeup Disguise Stix
Although the picture shows a whole range of make-up sticks, you actually pick the individual colours yourself.
I think this is a great idea as you can select only the colours you need and won't end up with a load of random colours hanging around for years to come.
If you're anything like me (oh dear) it's also an advantage to only get the colours you need because it helps you to avoid being distracted by the other colours, deciding to 'just try them' and ending up ruining your Mad Hatter look by scribbling all over yourself in a multitude of hues...
These funky Mad Hatter shoes are specifically designed to compliment your Mad Hatter costume, but they are also neutral enough to go with other outfits.
I really like the handmade quality they have.
How sexy are these knee high boots!
I think these would go perfectly with the Mischievous Mad Hatter costume and, if you're brave enough, could be worn on other occasions too.
Mad Hatter Make-Up
It's so important to get the make-up spot on with any Halloween costume and this one is no exception.
I love how bold and bright this look is and how it really reflects the Mad Hatter's quirky personality.
Your Mad Hatter Experiences
If you're planning to dress as the Mad Hatter this Halloween I'd love to hear from you!

- My son (3), my daughter (14 months), myself and my mother are all going to be characters from the movie. My son is going as Mad Hatter, my daughter is the Red Queen, myself as Alice, and my mother as the White Rabbit. I am trying to get my nephew to go as the Chesier cat!

- Me too! And that sounds like a great idea! I know you can get some really cute white rabbit plush toys from buycostumes.com, but an Alice doll would be adorable. Pop back and let us know if it works out!
