I had no idea that there were so very many items - made in Hungary - the Rubiks cube really surprised me as I thought it was American.

I have never visited Hungary but when I was working and attending art school in N.Y.C. in the mid-1970's my employer, Alexander Korody, Founder of the Alexander Korody & Company Importers was born in Hungary.

I remember me speaking a few Russian words and he ask me if I knew "Rooksy'!

Hehe, it seems I'm following your lenses :)
Having lived both in Romania and in Hungary (plus being originally Hungarian Transilvanian), I can attest to their beauty. And you have captured their essence quite well. Well done.

I have never been to Hungary, but my dream is to drive through Europe, spending a couple of months. Then I'll include Hungary. Didn't know Pez is made in Hungary! I grew up with Pez, and have converted my kids now. I want that Kermit Pez!

Oh, Julie! I'm a little bewildered by all the products -- nerdy types don't know a thing about clothes, except for "LL Bean" and "Levi" -- but I leapt on the info about Hungary and Budapest, and just spent a good half hour scouring the Ellis Island records thanks to your link. I had no idea they were online!

No luck yet -- I need to double-check with my Mum what year a certain 23-year-old widow, Esther Friedman, came over from Hungary by way of Austria -- but you give me hope I might be able to track down my roots at last.

Just on the VERY obscure chance that you might have heard of it-- I know the name of my family's village was pronounced "Yonvar". I don't even know how that's spelled in Hungarian! It was a day's carriage ride from Budapest. It's probably disappeared. I think it was almost entirely Jewish, and my granddad stopped getting letters from his cousins still living there during WWII.

Interesting slant on a country I always enjoy visiting!
    How about Hollóháza too?

Wow! This was extensive and well done (as I would expect).
I read that eBay actually began as a site where the creator could locate Pez dispensers for his daughter's collection.

    Thanks!

I've been doing online retailing selling lots of stuff and I was wondering if I can also sell "Made in Hungary" items or I can sell items to Hungary customers. Well, I can possibly do that because of World Wide Brands ! Anyway, I have fun reading your lens and I'm sure hope you have other more great 5-star lenses like this!!! Keep up the good work! I really love reading all of your lenses!!!

Goulash is one of the few dishes I manage to cook fairly well, thanks to my late Oma. You sure know how to cover a subject exhaustively, "Made in Hungary" really leaves no stone unturned. I had no idea so many designer brands were made there, the shopping temptation here is dangerous :)
  • Barkely Sep 13, 2008 @ 9:42 pm | delete
Wow! It was so interesting to see all the wonderful things made in Hungary:)

When I was in junior high school, I read an historic novel set in Hungary, in the days when Budapest was Buda & Pest. Ever since then, I have wanted to visit Hungary, Poland, Romania, The Czech Republic..... I keep adding to my "one day" list.

Great lens ~ Love the slideshow!

My brother-in-law spent a lot of time in Hungary teaching English and it is wonderful to learn more. My daughter call him uncle Bache(spelled wrong), I think that mean uncle in hungarian. Well that is what he tells us.
    Thanks

Awesome lens Julie! I am very proud of my Hungarian heritage and speak the language (although, it could use some polishing). I have visited Hungary 4 times and am looking forward to returning one day.

    Great work Julie!
Fellow Hungarians feel your warmth to everything "Hungarian"

I take pride in speeking some Hungarian, as it is spoken by less than 20 Million people world wide!
Nothing can come close to it!

    Best Regards,
    Frank Takacs
