Yes, there are many well-known designer labels that are "made in Romania." I was actually "blown away" when I started to assemble my list of designer brands bearing the label of "made in Romania" or "made in Rumania!"
As you progress through this page, I'm betting you too will be pretty amazed about all that is Made in Romania. For men reading this lens, I've found some excellent shirts, slacks, and shoes. You'll find that Eastern European clothing is well-made and nicely-tailored--you may even see something that interests you so much that you have to buy it!

A little background info: In May 2004, I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of traveling to Hungary and Romania to "trace my roots." My curiousity about these two countries has been my inspiration to publish a series of lenses discussing Hungary and Romania.
This particular lens is one of several "made in" Eastern European countries lenses. Be sure to check the rest of them out ... I've included links at the bottom of this lens. Hopefully, you will find this lens about items "Made in Romania" just as interesting.

"Made in Romania / Rumania" Name Brands

When I was doing my research for my other lens about Hungarian-made items, I was totally amazed at the number of different recognizable name brands that have been manufactured in Hungary and similarly made in Romania! Romania produces some of the same brands as those produced in Hungary.Searching for "Made in Romania" and "Made in Rumania" on eBay I found nearly 300 items in auctions listings with some 730 in eBay stores, but not as many as for "Made in Hungary."

Lamarthe "made in Rumania"
From my personal collection ...
I recently found this petite black leather handbag on eBay and just had to have it; primarily because of it's uniqueness and the fact that it is "made in Rumania."The purse bears the embossing of Lamarthe, which is a designer name of handbags that usually are made in Paris. This baguette quite possibly was from a sample run. It's black with white piping with two tags inside; one is "claim #47," and the other reads "Made in Rumania." The size is compact, 9" x 5-1/2" and appears to be new. The zipper pull is also marked Lamarthe.
P.S. Lamarthe was scheduled for a public offering on the Paris Stock Exchange in 2006. This is a luxury designer brand to watch! Elettra Rossellini is the "muse" of this designer brand.

Romanian Artists: Horia and Carmen Puscariu
Horia Puscariu is contemporary fine glass artist whose items can be found through the internet at Global Artisan Showcase and on eBay. Reflexions Decor features some of his art, as well.His work is widely exhibited in Europe and Asia with shows in Japan, France, and Holland.
He is shown in the picture with his wife Carmen.

An Expected Find
This is such a beautiful blue color. According to the eBay seller, this artistic bowl was made in Romania and finished in Italy. eBay Find: Romanian Amber Rosin
An Unexpected Find
As I was browsing the few hundred "Made in Romania" items on eBay, I stopped when I found this one. Although I was just discovering about the diverse items Romania has to offer, this one struck me as being rather unique. I now know that you can find oodles of Baltic Sea amber items that are "made in Poland" as amber is "harvested" more frequently in that country. eBay Find: Hemp Twine

Romanian Optics Industry
I.O.R., Romanian Optics Industry, is the last original optical factory of Eastern Europe. They are a supplier of optical components and assemblies for other famous European companies including Carl Zeiss GMBH, Fog-Gorlitz, Hensoldt, Leica, Pentacon, and Schnider while continuing their long time collaboration with Jaener GlassWerk GMBH from Jena in Germany.
Since 1936, as one of the largest and oldest factories in Europe, they have specialized in producing elite military opto-mechanical devices. These products were tested secretly during World War II under the direction of former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.
During the Cold War years, I.O.R.'s products were used by the Warsaw Pact Army and Navy elite troops, along with other similar products from Carl Zeiss Jena Germany.
Since 1989, when the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain fell, all Warsaw Pact military items became precious collectibles.
