In the 2010 film, Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter is portrayed by Johnny Depp. His name is Tarrant Hightopp, who played the role of a brave and loyal servant to the White Queen. He is also Alice's bestfriend and protector. His orange hair is an allusion to the mercury poisoning suffered by many hatters who used mercury to cure pelts.
