Getting your magazine subscriptions in order!
Until I started working for my current employer, I had no idea that there is a service that will help you consolidate all your magazine subscriptions into one account. It makes it much easier to juggle your subscriptions when it comes to renewal time.
This lens is designed to give an overview of how a subscription service can make a big difference when it comes to simplifying the management of something you really only want to think about one time a year. Plus if you play your cards right, you could save yourself a boatload of money.
What is a magazine subscription service?
How does a company send one renewal notice a year? Many companies prorate your magazines if you purchase other magazines throughout the year so that your expiration dates will automatically align. Once you receive your renewal bill you may notice that some of your magazine renewal prices are cheaper (or sometimes more) than the listed price. You should only be charged for the months of the subscription up to what is called the "common expire date."
Then the following year, if you renew again, you will find that the subscription price is now back to the listed price because the the prorated prices on the previous renewal notice reset your expiration date. View the google video below for more information on how prorating magazines works.
The cost for your magazine management service should be transparent...most companies blend it into the cost of the magazine subscriptions. Individual magazine pricing is pretty much the same for all providers. If you find extraordinarily low prices...this usually means that the seller is offering magazines below the authorized prices provided from the publisher.
Who cares if you buy from an unauthorized dealer? Two groups actually...the publishers (like Time Inc, Hearst, Conde Nast) and the ABC Board (Audit Bureau of Circulation). If your unauthorized dealer gets reported to the ABC for selling below authorized pricing, you will find that your magazines mysteriously stop coming and more than likely you won't get a refund. So buyer beware!
One other thing...always make sure that your provider offers a money back guarentee! If you cancel service, you should be refunded for all undelivered magazines on the remaining months of the subscription.

How do you get free magazines for waiting room?
In many cases it is possible to get free magazines for your waiting area. The downside is that these free subscriptions are only temporary and must convert to a paid subscription within one year to be in compliance with the Audit Board of Circulation (ABC).
The other alternative is to get sponsored subscriptions. These are technically free to you, but are actually paid subscriptions by a sponsor. Usually the sponsor is found on the cover of a magazine binder.

- Very useful, I'm definitely going to look into these services since I have about a dozen subscriptions to keep track of.
