 The three Mage talent trees are all variations of one word: Damage.

  • Arcane: Damage spells including utility spells (consumables, teleportation, etc.)
  • Fire: Damage spells that include damage-over-time (DoT) spells.
  • Frost: Damage spells including immobilization ("root") or slow down ("snare") spells.

  • "Frost" is the most mana efficient of the talent trees, keeping drinking and down time to a minimum.

  • "Frost" allows the Mage to "kite": slowing a target's advance while the Mage retreats and deals damage. The Mage gets the best survivability. Highly recommended for solo questing.

  • With good AoE spells, "Frost" is a great build for solo questing and groups.

  • With high burst damage, "Ice Barrier" for defense, a kiting stun ("Deep Freeze"), and a damage-dealing pet, Frost can be the a fantastic build for PvP (Player v. Player).

  • "Frost" can be a great long-term, "endgame" build as well.

Possible Grouping and Solo Quests

Mage Leveling Guide"Frost" is great for solo questing, grouping, and PvP. For Mage leveling quickly, however, the three are not equal:

  • A Mage can burn through more quests with "Area of Effect" ("AoE") abilities, not sharing loot or experience.

  • When running solo you get more gold per hour of play. So...

  • Don't quest randomly and focus on the right quests.

  • "Frost" is good for grouping. For Mage leveling quickly, collect all the quests for a given dungeon before joining a group.

  • Groups are only as fast as its slowest member and may slow Mage leveling. Beware.

  • "Frost" is fine for PvP but...PvP will slow down Mage leveling.

Mage Leveling Guide Gear

Stamina, Intellect, Spirit

For fast Mage leveling don't bother with gems and enchantments-you'll be leveling too fast. Make sure you've enough of both Haste and Spell power. Other important stats to watch:

  • Spirit: regenerates your mana for the next fight.
  • Intellect: how much total mana you have.
  • Stamina: how much total health you have.
Mix-and-match gear:

  • "of the Owl": Intellect and Spirit.
  • "of the Eagle": Stamina and Intellect.
  • "of the Whale": Stamina and Spirit.
Critical rating is fun but not critical (pun intended) for Mage leveling fast.
