Help Me Support Magic Breakfast

I have only recently heard of this charity as the school where my children attend is considering applying for help from Magic Breakfast.

This worth charity provides free school breakfasts to needy children across the poorest areas of Britain. They remove one of the biggest costs of providing a nutritious breakfast from the schools, the cost of the food.

The importance of a good breakfast cannot be disputed

Breakfast helps to kick start the body's metabolism and raise blood sugar levels each morning after several hours of fasting while sleeping.

A number of studies have shown that children who eat a nutritious breakfast show better concentration levels, have improved behaviour, and greater academic achievement than those who do not.

Too many children arrive at school having not eaten anything for breakfast! Because of this the are too hungry to concentrate and are unable to learn effectively.

The founder of Magic Breakfast, Carmel McConnell realised there was a need for this type programme while researching her book Change Activist in 2000. She left her London City career and began delivering breakfast to six schools in Hackney, London, funding the project entirely on her own. After many years of campaigning, Magic Breakfast is now able to deliver a free breakfast to around 3,000 children each day.

Why Magic Breakfast is Needed

London Primary School3.8 million UK children are living in income poverty.

1 in 4 children get one hot meal a day - their school lunch.

Many mothers will go hungry to enable their children to eat.

350,000 children in the UK who are eligible for Free School Meals do not take them up

It is estimated, using figures from UNICEF, Rowntree, and CPAG, that up to 250,000 UK children are arriving at primary school each day too hungry to learn.

Every penny you give us goes straight to the children. It only costs £28 to give a child a nutritious breakfast for a whole year.
