Magic Lantern Custom Firmware

Magic Lantern is an open platform for developing enhancements to Canon digital SLRs. Canon DSLR cameras are game changers in the film industry, especially because of their low-light performance and because the dynamic range and latitude are close to the capabilities of high-end HD cameras.

What are the main enhancements?
The first set of fixes were set for the audio part, but there are some major video enhancements


  • On screen audio meters

  • Zebra stripes for video peaking

  • Control of focus and bracketing

  • Custom Cropmarks for 16:9, 2.35:1, 4:3 and any other format

  • Manual gain control with no AGC

Does Magic Lantern completely replace Canon firmware?

No, because it runs on the memory card as an add-on over standard firmware. You are still able to access Canon functionality. For more information and user guide go to Magic Lantern User Guide

    so sad that it is only for the DSLR I have a canon bridge camera Canon SX40 HS but perhaps it is that it does not need this program. I also have a canon DSLR 1000D so maybe for that one then. Interesting lens good idea

    I would like to pursue photography in a bigger way, and I love Canon cameras too. Unfortunately unless I win the lottery I am going to be using my Canon Powershot for the foreseeable future. Good information.

    Photography is a hobby that I'd like to pursue in a bigger way. Hopefully in 2012, I'll get a chance to do so. Magic lantern firmware sounds like a must have.
