Today, I'm Going Flying With Imax's The Magic of Flight

The Magic of Flight is a 39-minute Imax film, which takes you soaring starting with the first flight flown by the Wright Brothers (1903) and including the Blue Angels and their maneuvers. It is a tribute of sorts to aircraft and to people who fly and is narrated by Tom Selleck.

The Magic of Flight was seventh on the list of the best Imax blu-ray movies in 2008. Definitely a great choice if you love airplanes and flying. It is an older movie shot in 1996 and so is of a different quality than those being made today for blu-ray technology.

The Magic of Flight (IMAX) Blu-ray Review by Blu-rayDefinition.com

"The Magic of Flight is a definite showcase piece for home theatre systems, and as such, one should adjust one's expectations for the depth of in formation contained within. Still, for those interested flight and beautiful imagery, it is difficult to argue against this IMAX feature's appeal."

Magic of Flight Blu-ray Review by DVD Talk

"On the plus side, the aerial footage that is included is really stunning, and viscerally exciting at times. Having a nosecone's view of vertigo inducing quick rolls and drops is really an amazing experience. And some of the information imparted is quite interesting as well, as in various grunting, clenching exercises the Angels rehearse to keep blood trapped in their brains so that they won't black out in high G-force moments."

Magic of Flight Blu-ray Review by Blu-ray.com

"There's plenty to be impressed by here, as The Magic of Flight's DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track both rumbles with the expected thunder of jet engines and gives off a surprising amount of detail in less powerful sounds, like a flock of birds taking off from a marsh, filling the soundfield with their squawks and flapping wings. The surround speakers are activated frequently, with lots of fluid cross-channel movements, and the country/rock/inspirational score swelling from all directions. The instruments all have a satisfying presence, most notably the slide guitar, and Tom Selleck's narration rides cleanly over the rest of the mix."
