MTG Dragon Decks... Fun, Fun, Fun!
Dragons are some of the most fun cards in the collectible trading card game Magic: the Gathering. Sure, a few of them might cost 10 mana to play, and maybe they're not quick enough for Type I tournament play, but there's not much that's more fun than a casual game in which you get to play a card like Dragon Tyrant!
In the early years of MTG, dragons were mainly red. In later sets, however, dragons of all colors, and all mixtures of colors, have appeared. Dragons are some of the biggest, baddest creatures around, and it's always fun to take a look at powerful creatures from MTG. I'll highlight a few of my favorite dragons in this article, and maybe give some pointers to newer players who want to build a fun MTG dragon deck. Like I said, the look on your opponent's face when you're able to bring out one of these guys early in the game makes up for any games you lose because you couldn't scrape together the mana to play anything!

MTG Dragon Deck Combos
One of the best ways to build a dragon deck is to make sure you never actually have to play the casting cost of a dragon. Since they're big, powerful creatures, they usually come with big, expensive casting costs. But Magic: The Gathering is full of ways that you can sneak creatures into play. For example, if you build a red / green dragon deck, there's Elvish Piper. Suddenly all those dragons that used to cost 5RR now cost G! Plus, with a red / green dragon deck you can use all of green's great mana production cards and Dragon Broodmother!Another great option for sneaking dragons into play without paying their mana cost is Sneak Attack. Although the card's artwork depicts a group of goblins sneak attacking a dragon, it can just as easily be used to sneak, say, a Zodiac Dragon into play. Turn after turn after turn...

Shivan Dragon
I suppose there's not a great deal to say about Shivan Dragon. It's really, really powerful, but all it's abilities are pretty straightforward. Shivan Dragon is, in my mind, sort of the classic MTG dragon. Sure, there are lots of others that might be bigger or have some awesome ability, but Shivan dragon is pretty darn good as is!The ability to pump his power up is key, and I think he's actually a little overpowered to only cost 4RR. That said, by the time you have that much mana, the game is probably pretty much decided one way or the other. If you've got six mana to pump Shivan Dragon up with, your opponent won't last much longer!

Lightning Dragon
I've always liked cards with echo. They allow you to get out a big creature much faster than normal, and have the advantage of spreading the cost over 2 turns. 4/4 Flying with a pump ability for 4RRRR is a bit too expensive, but for 2RR on 2 consecutive turns I think it's pretty good!I may be a little biased because Urza's Saga is one of my favorite sets ever, but I've always really liked this card. And I think the artwork is really sweet as well!

- You know your subject area. MTG looks quite hard to get in to. Is it easy on newbies?

- If you have some nice players in your area it is not that hard to pick up.

- It is not "hard"; you just need to be willing to spend some money to start up your collection of cards, and some time learning the basic rules of the game (which you can do at magicthegathering.com). Learn the rules first, research what kind of product you would like to get and buy it at your local hobby store or online. To find people to play with just go to a hobby store; that's where MTG player usually gather!
