Losing your wallet can be a traumatic experience. It's bad enough that you lost your cash, you had to lose your cards, receipts, checks, IDs, passport and other such important papers. So do make sure that you take the necessary precautions so that you lessen the effect of any such untoward incident.

Use a business card holder.

It's an inevitable fact-wallets are hooligans' easy target. They are after your hard-earned cash. What's worse about losing the cash you keep in your wallet is the fact that it tags your cards with it too. You can avoid this by keeping a separate compartment for your important cards. For this, you have a business card holder to help you out.

Make a list of important account numbers.

If you insist on keeping your cards in your wallet, make sure that you write down account numbers. In case you do lose your wallet, you'll find it easier to cope with the loss. For one, you can simply give the police your driver's license number, in case you might need to. Police officers will readily accept what you have to offer.

And oh, it's a ton wiser to use a money clip credit card holder. This type of wallet has compartments that hold your important cards securely in place. This option is much safer than the common ones.

Have them scanned or photocopied.

If writing down account numbers is too much of a hassle, take the easier route and have them scanned or photocopied instead. Do make sure that the copies get the number clear. And of course, keep them in separate compartments, not in your wallet.

Avoid storing all the cash in one wallet.

The last thing you need is to lose all the cash that you have. A good precautionary tactic is to hold some of your bills in a money clip. This way, you'll still have some much-needed money left, in case you do lose your wallet.

Check for your wallet regularly.

It's important that you develop the habit of checking if your wallet is still there. This way, you get an increased chance at finding it if you do lose it. Make a quick peek at your purse or a touch of your pocket every now and then.

Avoid keeping your wallet at the back pocket.

Your back pocket is the least safe place for your wallet, especially if you are in crowded places. So do keep your wallet away from that area. If you insist in doing so, make sure that you're wearing pants that include buttons on the pockets. And make sure that you actually use them.
