Why Make a Magic Wand?

Life is hard. You face difficult choices and challenges every day. Couldn't you use a little magical assistance in addressing life's troubles? This step-by-step guide will help you craft yourself a magic wand to assist you in coping with your struggles and travails just like Harry Potter. Once you have brought your wand into existance, empower it with a special magic then cast your spell and wait for the results! Wands aren't just for Halloween, a good wand will continue to shower you and your friends and family with goodness for years and years! Good luck and happy casting!

Please note, these instructions are only for wands of good, evil wands cannot be made or empowered by this method.

Materials

A good stick: This is the base of your wand, so you want to choose a good one. It can be short and stubby, or long and slender. It could be straight or interestingly crooked. These characteristics are up to you and should reflect your personality. Do not remove a stick from a living tree or bush, it must have naturally fallen off. This part of the process may take some time, but its important to find the right stick.

A Ball of Twine

scissors

White glue

small guage elecrical wire

needle nosed pliars with wire cutting ability

assorted beads

small paper shipping tag - 2 3/4" x 1 3/8" such as Avery 11004

calligraphy pen or fine point marker

Wand Constuction

The Handle

Take a good long look at your stick and decide which end will be the handle and which end will be the business end of your wand. Usually, the thicker end makes the better handle, but this is your wand. Just make sure you are fully happy with your choice.

Starting with the handle end, cut a long length of twine and begin to wind it around the handle end beginning at the top of the handle and continuing down to about an inch from the bottom. Once you've reached the bottom, begin to wrap back on top of your previous wrapping. Finish back at the starting point and cut off the remaining twine. Pour a little glue onto a small paper plate and dip your finger in it. Wipe the glue around the point where you stopped wrapping. Add more glue if needed to make a strong bond that won't unravel. Congratulations, you have now finished the handle for your wand!

Wand Construction

The Business End

Now to the business end of the wand. This will require the wire and beads. Determine where you want to start the wire spiral. You may want to leave a portion of the wand plain above the handle. Once you've found your starting point, cut a long length of wire and start winding it around the wand. You can wind it spread out, close together or vary it as you go. At certain intervals, stop and add a bead to the wire. Pull the bead down to the wand and then continue winding the wire along the wand. You can vary the beads or stick to the same kind of bead. You may want to add at least one crystal bead as these seem to carry more powerful magic. Once you reach the end of your wand, make a couple of tight winds at the very end then clip the wire leaving about 5 inches beyond the wand. Place a bead at the very end of the wire and secure it with a tight loop at the end made by your needle nosed pliars. Finally, wind the remaining wire around a pen or pencil. Remove the pen or pencil and pull the wire out to make a nice spiral ending in a bead.

Label Your Wand

Wand's have the most power when they have a focused purpose. Write the power of your wand on the shipping tag and tie it to the wand at the top of the handle. See a list of Wand names and powers below to use or make up your own. You may want to use a calligraphy pen or fine point marker and copy a decorative text such as Blackadder ITC. To help with this, pull up Word on your computer and type in your wand's title in the text you would like to copy. Enlarge the text to a font size which allows you to clearly see all of the details of each letter. practice copying the letters a few times on a separate piece of paper, then write it onto your tag. You may want to add some decorative details or symbols to add more magic to your wand. See decorative designs and symbols below for ideas. Tie your label to the wand at the top of the handle. Congratulations, you have constructed your wand!

Empower Your Wand

Any object can be made sacred and imbued with power by your belief in it. Thus your wand will be empowered by your own belief. Since this is your wand, you get to define your empowering ritual. Here are some elements you may want to include in your ritual.

create a sacred circle on the floor or ground, place your wand in the middle and walk around it 3 times
hold your wand closely and visualize energy going into your wand
write a poem about your wand and chant it 3 times
Put your wand under your pillow to imbue it with your dreams
have those you love hold the wand to imbue it with their energy

These are just some ideas for empowering your wand. You may have your own ideas. The point isn't what you do, but that you believe that what you do will empower the wand. Make the ritual meaningful and personal to you and it will empower the wand.

Using your Wand

Sending powerful positive energy!

This process makes only good wands, evil wands will not be empowered by this process. To use your wand, hold it in your left hand, focus your mind on the person you are sending the power to - you may want to use a photo or look in the mirror if you are sending it to yourself. Circle the wand counter-clockwise 3 times. You may wish to write a spell or chant a spell found at the sites in the links.

Why not benefit the world with your wand! After you have cast your spell, send out your wand's energy to the world. We could all use its benefits!

Do you know Dorrie the Little Witch?

When I was a little girl, I used to love to read the Dorrie the Witch series of books. I used to get them from the library all of the time. One halloween, I painted a store window in my town with a picture of Dorrie stirriing her caldron with a cloud of smoke eminating from the top that said "Happy Halloween".
